House Centipedes

I currently have a house centipede problem, especially in my bedroom. I have not been bitten by one, at least I don't think so. But I happen to see them almost every week. I have checked for possible entry points in the bedroom but have not seen any visible holes of any kind, although there are hairline cracks near the corners of the baseboard. Any ideas or tips are always appreciated. Thanks!

Heh... I had one in my basement a couple of weeks ago. Nasty looking.

Two things to try... one is to get a can of BugOut Ant Killer spray, which lists all kinds of things it works on. Try spraying a barrier along the baseboard to see if it helps (move along slowly, allow spray to look wet on surface and move along that way).

I used that as a filler while waiting on another product to arrive that was recommended on some pest sites called CB D-Force HPX.

Another one on that page is

http://thepestcontrolstore.com/product.cfm?p=36&c=23

I got both but applied the D-Force in the same spray-along method. Haven't seen them since but then again I only saw one of them... maybe it snuck in from the outside or something. I just need to remember to re apply it every couple of months or so.

centipedes have venom on their legs, iirc, so a bite won't be a huge problem I don't think. But some species can kill a large man.

I just watched King Kong this weekend, so this topic is kinda freakin' me out. I saw a few furry-centipede-looking things at the beginning of spring but they've subsided. Sorry I have no advice, but I've probably killed over a thousand ants in my apartment during the last month so I can sympathize on a smaller scale.

I've tried the ant baits (don't do shit) and sprayed Raid everywhere. One thing that definitely doesn't work is smacking the shit out of every single ant you see, I've learned that much.

Not sure what to do with centipedes. As for ants though, you need to find out what kind of ant it is. If they're the really tiny little fuckers, they could be one of two types in this area. If you tried the trap/baits and they didn't work, try the gel. I had the tiny little fuckers in my house and they turned out to be the type that are really difficult to get rid of. The good thing is they didn't make it very far into the house. One thing you can try first to see if it helps...find where they're coming in at. Once you find it, clean that area. Ants tend to leave a pheremone trail that they follow. Many times if you clean the floor and the walls in that area, they can't follow the trail and thats that. If that doesn't work..try the gel ant bait. Some ants won't go for the stuff in the traps. Hopefully this helps for those of you with ant problems.

Diazinon (sp?) crystals spread liberally around the outside of your house works great.

If one could get them... I believe the sale of diazinon was phased out in 2002-2003.

Go to Home Depot and buy the bombs in a can that kill every bug. Be sure to use plenty, follow the directions and you will not longer have a bug problem!

Good thing my dad still has 2 huge bags of diazinon in the shed. A little googling tells me the EPA overreacted and if you're lucky enough to find some, go ahead and use it. They always ban the good stuff.
