Grand re-opening of Springfield Mall less than 90 days out
Posted by: Blue Light Shopper ()

After decades of hoping and two years of waiting, the grand opening of the newly revitalized Springfield Mall—renamed Springfield Town Center—is less than 90 days away, according to Fairfax County Supervisor Jeff McKay (D-Lee).

“This is the most important thing that has happened to Springfield in several decades,” Lee said Thursday. “And it is scheduled to open on time in October. From what I understand, it is currently 90 percent leased and ready to go.”

I am over there every weekend for the Farmers market. The place looks like a s@it storm, and they are going to open in 90 days? I know the aim was to be open for the 2014 Christmas shopping season, but I just don't see it happening.
They have a big mess to clean up and lots of vendors who need to be in place. I don't understand how they are going to pull this off.

You know what happens if you park a nice car in a shitty neighborhood, like Springfield, VA?

The same thing that will happen if you plop a nice shopping mall in a shitty neighborhood, like Springfield, VA.

Fuck town centers. They're all the same: overpriced boring ass pretentious rich people stores that exist in all the other town centers and malls, and occassionally movie theaters catering to entitled assholes who have to have reserved seating rather than suffering the consequences of coming late so that now people who are early are punished and people who are late rewarded.

Springfield Mall was a fun place to go in the early-mid 90s. There were stores that actually sold things you could buy and would want, or at least look at if you couldn't buy. Before the crime went through the roof it was a fun place to hang out at and walk around.

Even when the crime was rampant and half the stores gone they still offered trick-or-treating for the kids (no crime incidents happened), something town centers and pretentious ass malls like Little Israel-Persia Tysons can't be bothered to do because they only care about money.

Fuck town centers, and rich entitled assholes. Next they'll be claiming a town center is a human right because people don't know what "human rights" means, and the rich people will be all, "I can't live without a Papyrus every other 5 miles because I don't know when I'll need to get invitations for my whore parties!"

There's a farmers' market?

We drove by yesterday after leaving Home Depot. We commented that it "looks like Springfield Mall".

Someone has an ego problem... They say that people who set out to hurt others are the ones who are distressed themselves. The only person your ego is appealing to is yourself.

That floor plan shows the same shit that's in every other mall or "town center" as they call them now. Bunch of stores that cater to poor people and negroes. Why would you not expect crime when you attract those people?

It is?

What I see is a douchebag Yuppie-friendly facade consisting of chain, Sysco-serving slophouse restaurants.

And behind that facade? Really, really shitty, low-rent, white trash and ghetto black-oriented stores behind them.

But it is Springfield, after all. I reckon we should all be happy that the stores aren't all supermercados, futebol jersey stores, and other stores that cater to fat, retarded fucking wetback mexican locusts that infest this area.

Actually, after taking a second glance, most of the stores behind the Yuppie facade also seem to cater to mexican trash, too.

All the trash of all colors will be happy with the new Springfield Mall. Same as the old mall.

Not all of them, but here goes:

Panda Express
Chipotle
Sarku
Coldstone

The orange ones up top are blurry. The best I can make out is:

Pho Cheapo
Player's Chicken

The white spots, which I assume are still unleased, but with possible tenants are really blurry, but I can make out:

Great American Cookie or Nestle Toll House
Smoothies
Five Guys
Potbelly

My overall impression is amusement. I'm glad to see Sarku returning though there's one now on Backlick. Even considering how sketchy that area is, if I'm in the mood for their food, I sure as hell would choose to dine at the Backlick restaurant rather than the one at a mall. Why deal with a mall with its own murder rate and a parking lot known for its abductions, murders, and gang killings?

As for the stores? Wow, I feel like I'm looking at a map of Patrick Henry Mall circa 1995.

I applaud Springfield's forward thinking political leaders for going all in to support the development of a lower middle tier example of an outdated concept known as a "shopping mall."

"Welcome to the New Mall" hit the nail right on the head: Nothing there that you can't find at Amazon or online in general.

You could post a hundred post about the Town Center failing, but it won't make a difference. The research behind the REIT's purchase is solid. This area has highly educated, high income households and the Town Center will be a success.

Springfield is actually a pretty great place to live and getting better every day. It's convenient to all major roads AND a great place to buy a SFH under $500K. I have no idea who you people are and the thought that we may be neighbors frightens me, but to me the Springfield Town Center is a sign of things to come: restaurants, young families, gentrification, higher property prices, redevelopment! This is exactly why we bought here, because we have seen other areas go through the same and we want to be part of this!

Again...all you've done is create a more desirable place for undesirable, brown, savage, illegal mud-people to conduct their criminal activities...a mall does not cause people to go someplace else.

Please leave then. There are still parts of this country where whites make up more than 95% of the population, so why not go someplace where the demographics are more to your liking.

NoVa has had blacks since the early 1700s. NoVa has had Asians since at least the early 1960s and got a much larger influx after South Vietnam and Cambodia fell in the mid 1970s. The first wave of people from the Middle East came in during the 1970s when the Shah was deposed. My guess is that NoVa was already multi-cultural by the time you were born.

Lots of assumptions...all of them wrong. I was born long before the Asian Invasion.

Here's the thing...

Everything was fine here in NOVA until about 1993. Oh sure, we've had lots of non-whites here in the area for many, many years. But the brown, savage, illegal mud-people changed everything. The niggers, the slopes and the camel jockeys all learned to go along to get along but not the wetback. Oh sure, darkies, chinks and sand niggers have all contributed to the increase in overall crime in their time here...but no one (MS-13, anyone?) has spiked the crime stats nor consumed as much public assistance as the worthless spics.

I believe the person posting about Springfield changing is spot on. It's a great location because of the metro, VRE, and interstates. It will draw younger families. Many of the homes were built in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Those folks who bought during those years have now gotten their kids through college and the kids are launching. Many will be retiring elsewhere. There will be new, younger couples looking for affordable homes. The "illegals" you speak of cannot afford to buy these homes and if they can it is because they have worked hard and what's wrong with that? People with that kind of a work ethic are exactly the kind of people who will make the community great.

There are some very good schools in the area and great opportunities. I am looking forward to giving my business to the stores at the mall. This area has a ton of potential.

More like they'll afford it by packing 8 or 9 people into houses made for a 50's family of 4 with one car, renting out the basement and packing the streets with 1996 Corollas and commercial landscaping vehicles.

Or have you not been out around this area much for the last 20 years?

Will rent every room and closet out, and pack 3 - 5 families in one house. People with that kind of a work

could happen if Fairfax County does not enforce zoning laws . . .

the county does this at their own peril . . . more kids per house means higher real estate taxes . . . which would mean more people with fewer kids leaving for other areas (Loudoun, Fauquier, etc.)

this is the kind of cycle that needs to be avoided by Fairfax government

"more kids per house means higher real estate taxes"

How does that work? Number of kids in a house has no effect on the county's assessment of a residential property.

^ how that works is that you have more kids with the same number of houses

more kids cost more to educate at 13K per kid so you have to increase the real estate taxes to cover more kids

the population of FCPS keeps increasing and if there are not more houses being built to justify the numbers it means each house has to pay more in taxes

do you get it now?

I think you mean HAS HAPPENED, because Fairfax County is NOT enforcing its zoning laws.

I have lived in FFX County for 53 of my 57 years on this earth, raised two kids here, but it is now time to move on, sadly.

I tried getting some beaners on my street kicked out, they have almost 10 people living there. Unfortunately all the spics have to do is tell them, they are all family, or that there are less than 5 people and there isn't much the county can do at that point,

When the asians and middle easterners came to this country they learned the language and adapted. The latinos refuse to learn the language and know that in a few more years they will be the majority. They are like fucking cock roaches. They have more and more children and collect more welfare. Because they are renters, they don't pay real estate taxes, but yet they are the major cause for overcrowding and reduced resoureces at our schools.

BTW, did you know that at the new Springfield Town Center the mall directories will be in English and Spanish! Viva La Springfield, cringos!
