FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- Virginia State Police Department is investigating two traffic crashes and the death of one of the victims, who suffered from a gunshot wound in Fauquier County.

According to authorities, Fauquier County Sheriff's Office responded to a Monday night crash that happened around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of Route 17/Marsh Road and Independence Avenue.

Police said the suspect vehicle, a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse, was going southbound on Route 17 when it drove off the road and turned over many times. The driver, Corey M. Chamberlain, 24, of Marshall, was thrown out of the car, according to authorities. He died in the hospital due to his injuries, police said.

It was determined on Tuesday that Chamberlain was suffering from a gunshot wound, authorities said. Authorities, along with Trooper Price returned to the crash scene to further investigate the crash on Tuesday.

Police said, around 5:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Va. State police cars were in the right, northbound lane of Route 17 with emergency lights on, when a vehicle hit a state police car.

Police said, he was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

According to authorities, the driver of the Chevrolet, Joseph R. Jenkins, 55, of Midland, Va. was not hurt. He is being charged with DUI and for not moving over for a stopped emergency vehicle. Police said he is currently at the Fauquier County Jail.
