More than 50 firefighters battled a Sunday morning blaze that damaged a row of townhouses on Dawkins Crest Circle in Bristow.
Crews were called to the fire at 3:15 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of a three-story townhouse in the middle of the row, said Prince William fire and rescue spokeswoman Kim Hylander.
Flames spread quickly to adjacent townhomes, prompting a second alarm.
In all, nine townhouses were involved, with four sustaining significant structural damage. Those were declared unsafe by county building officials. Five others sustained minor damage, including melted siding, Hylander said.
No one was injured.
The Red Cross was called to assist seven adults displaced by the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
