Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I'm a fat lard and the past year I've made an effort to work out more.
By April I was at 1 hour workouts burned about 600 cals.
By June I was at (2) 1 hour workouts burning about 1200 cals.
Now... I'm bored as hell with my workouts... have started hill sprints in addition to my (2) workouts.
In fairfax/springfield area... any super intense workouts that's easy on $$ but high in calories burned. My brain won't allow me to just run/jog for infinity miles... it's gotta be a mix of stuff.
If you were a fatass as recently as April, there's no way you're doing "hill sprints" right now. Your definition of a "hill" or a "sprint" must differ from mine.
Stop doing stupid isolated movements with free weights. They're good for older folks and people who want to show off in the mirror. They do very little for functional fitness.
Burpees - Do a lot of them.
Kettle Bell - Buy a couple different weights
Pull-Ups - Along with Burpees, these make you into a man
...and start doing all of your regular isolated movements on a bosu ball/exercise ball/balance board.

I've got a nice pedestrian crossing near me. It's a good 50 yards with a 20 ft rise. When I sprint I'm going my balls to the wall. May be slow to you but for me I'm winded to hell at the top and jog/walk/try not to die breathing heavily on the way down.
Those suggestions up top... That equipment is super expensive. Any classes that do all that but with reasonable fees?
Hit up a facility that focuses on intense workouts. you'll probably fall off the wagon doing free weights on your own at a gym b/c you'll get bored or workouts at home as you'll get distracted. Being in the springfield area, check out title boxing club in springfield. It's intense but way more fun then lifting. You'll easily burn more than 600 calories in the hour if you're there to work and push yourself a little bit. Good luck
A balance/swiss ball will cost you under $20. Burpees, lunges (jumping lunges too) and squats (already part of a burpee) are all free.
What do you consider "reasonable", as far as fees go? Im a certified trainer (not the gym kind), and if i could get at least three participants id run a session a few days a week.
