Big o and Dukes Back to WJFK in 2014!
Posted by: Antman69 ()

Heard it from a connected source...Big O and Dukes are coming back to WJFK, with Chris Cooley as third mic.

Still to be determined:

Show name - may or may not be Big O and Dukes, might be Cooley and Dukes, with no mention of Oscar in the show name.

Drab - Drab was asked to come back to afternoon drive, but likes working with the Junkies so they may keep Bode as producer in the afternoon.

Podcasts - still up in the air whether Oscar keeps doing TMOS and Chad/Oscar/Drab do the Big O and Dukes podcast. Possible RIP for the Peanut Gallery.

Love for Oscar to leave LFF and watch him flip. Either way LFF will be jealous as all hell.

Is WJFK still keeping the all sports format (or mostly sports)?

I stand by my initial reporting, re. that the afternoon show on WJFK will be hosted by Chad Dukes and Oscar Santana. Name may or may not be Big O & Dukes, they were leaning towards moving away from Big O and Dukes towards Chad Dukes something something with Oscar Santana, but the livestream commercial graphic suggested that Big O and Dukes will be the name.

There are two main hang-ups that need to be solved before the deal is finalized: (i) the BOAD podcast; and (2) Oscar's concern that going back to WJFK is the wrong decision giving what he's built. There was no rush to do it today, as Chad didn't want Oscar to return on the same day that Lavar came back into the studio.

Re. podcasts, the guys love what they've created with the BOAD podcast and don't want to give it up. My best, informed guess: the WJFK show will be Chad Dukes with Oscar Santana (or something like that) with a half-sports radio/half-guy talk format (i.e., Chad Dukes v. the World), and then they will continue with the Big O and Dukes Podcast with the 'anything goes' format they've cultivated there. Sounds like the Peanut Gallery will live on!

Re. Oscar, the holdup is with podcasting generally, both TMOS and BOAD. He's making a decent living from them (plus his drone business), and wants to make sure he doesn't leave what is a "growth" market to go to WJFK and risk being fired in six months. In his heart he wants to go back to WJFK, so he and Chad will make the dollars and the legals work. But he'll have to reach an agreement with Mike re. selling or unwinding the DC studio.

Drab is still an unknown, he's waiting until Oscar is signed on to commit to leaving the Junks. Even then, it may be a couple of months before he would switch from AM drive to PM drive. The Junkies think he'll eventually leave, but they're fighting to keep him as they understand, and more importantly utilize, his entertainment value. Drab may stay with the Junks at WJFK and continue to do the BOAD podcast, the powers-that-be think that Chad and Bode have built enough chemistry to make a Chad-Oscar-Bode show work.

Anyways, that's what I know. We'll see if all the loose ends are tied up tomorrow or if Chad will keep the radio drama going for days (or weeks).

Antman out.

Sorry, forgot one piece. Regarding Cooley, there were talks but they evaporated quickly. If WJFK carried Redskins games, he'd be signed already. He wants to stay with the game broadcasts, he sees that as a 40-year gig.

Oscar is worried about "what he built"?

Even if you can consider the BOAD podcast and the O'Meara podcast to be "successes", they can't be bringing in the regular paycheck he'd get from going back to doing radio in a major market. Oscar likes money, we know that. The only downside, if there is any, is that CBS is more than willing to throw them back out on their ass in 6 months. Podcasts will either fail or they decide to stop making it.

I guess Lavar is leaving though. I can't fathom why NFL Network would want this guy, but good for him I guess. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/07/18/lavar-arrington-to-host-final-lavar-and-dukes-broadcast-friday/

If they don't have another washed up athlete to get in there, then why not give BOAD a shot? If it fails, then you go try and get London Fletcher to do a radio show, unless ESPN already signed him too. I'm sure some ex-Redskin is available. Lavar showed you don't need any broadcast talent to do it, so there should be a line across the state.
