PNC Bank is a bunch of crooks! I get my pay direct deposit into my account, usually happens on Thursday night before Friday payday (bi weekly). So, I look online and they have hit me with (3) $25 overdraft fees dated the same day the direct deposit was received.

I complained and all they did was tell me I should set up an overdraft account (which entails another fee) and if I over draw the account there will be a $10 transfee fee.

I asked them how I could be overdrawn when the electronic transfer was made the same day they said I was overdrawn.......*crickets chirping*....they never even addressed the question!

I think they are in the process of getting rid of the lower class customers prior to their sale.

Not disagreeing in the slightest that this is stupid (in terms of customer retention and satisfaction) and sleazy, but this is how it works: they process the withdrawals BEFORE the deposits. Hence the overdrafts.

Similarly, until relatively recently, they weren't prohibited from (and therefore took advantage of) processing withdrawals in order from largest to smallest. Thus if you had, say, $200 in your account, and these checks/debits cleared:

...you'd think, "Well, I was OK until that last $100, so I pay one overdraft". WRONG: by processing largest to smallest, they'd hit you FOUR times! Nice, eh?

Not to mention that those using debit a lot are typically lower-balance and/or younger, and thus less likely to make a stink that the bank feels it has to listen to (such as, "If you don't fix this, I'm closing my accounts, inclding that $100,000" CD).

There was a court settlement a year or two ago that forces them to *gasp* process in the order received. What a concept.

Back to your incident: did you go talk to the manager? You said you complained, but didn't specify how. A calm, rational discussion (even if it takes stabbing yourself with a pen to sound calm) might fix this.

Apparently you're broke and living paycheck to paycheck. That's the price you pay.

Well Lord have mercy.......sometimes raising hell and complaining gets results. PNC has decided to reverse the overdraft charges and have reimbursed my account $75. They said this was ONLY because I am a long time customer with other assets/accounts in the bank.

I appreciate this decision but I still think their policy sucks!

Took phone calls to HR to get my money back. Now I don't even want to go there face to face anymore. I feel embarassed.

I just started banking there because I started a home equity line of credit there.

My credit union wanted over $1,500 to set it up and their interest rate was higher.

PNC set it up for free and doesn't charge me the $50/yr maintenance fee because I keep more than $5k on deposit with them.

My only complaint is that the branch was rather aggressive in selling other services.

Bank's that gouge over minor technicalities are probably struggleing and desperate- in any case they are scumbags.

United Bank has sound business practices and does not need to resort to petty money making traps.

BB&T is probably the leader in rip-off schemes.

Add Bank of America to that list of the desperate banks that ding their customers for too many fees.

BTW, being poor is expensive! Overdraw your account? Pay up fucker! Keep a few grand in there and never overdraw? Here, have a credit card that pays you cash back.

PNC looks pretty good to me, mainly because I'm not in a spot where overdraft fees are eating me alive. Oddly enough, I keep that at BofA and they're always dipping in there to feed themselves.

Most banks that got hit with with the effects their greed now are cutting out anyone that keeps minimal $ in an account. If you can get an account up to 2500 $ or greater and keep a minimum balance that is always that high, they won't hassle you. They are trying to get rid of the "small fry" accounts by hitting them at every turn with fees until they leave. That is one of the reasons 15% of the population is "unbanked", they can't get their expenditures down to build up their accounts

If you are a homeowner with equity, do not place six months salary in bank. Get a line of credit on your home. Now, you have emergency funds. Take six months income and place in market. You should get a heck of a lot more than 1.0%, or less.

Bank of America's contract with Fairfax is up this year. If the BoS knows what's good for them, they will cancel it. They have been talking about getting another bank since 2011, it is time to make good on that.

Bank of America is rated one of the worst companies in the world, and with good reason.

Hell, yesterday I withdrew a dollar from my account and it dropped to 1.17 in my account. Got slapped with an overdaft fee they only removed after I called and had to bitch since the calm and nice guy approach didn't work at first.

True. My last dealing with these fuckers - in high school my parents helped me set up an account so I could learn how this all works. When I went to college, I forgot all about it, leaving 24 bucks in the account.

20 years later I'm buying a car and I see there's a black mark on my credit. Apparently BB&T decided to change my account type to one that included some sort of bullshit overdraft protection (oh, the irony) and sent me a letter asking me if I objected. When I didn't (having moved about 10 times since then) they went ahead and did it. It came with a 5$ a month fee, so soon the 24 bucks was gone. Now I was in overdraft, and that's 10 bucks a month. By the time I just happened to notice this, I was around 350 in the hole.

I decided to fix this and I called BB&T. The guy I talked to pretty quickly figured out what happened and we both simply marveled at the fuck-upery. Then he said 'So, how do you want to settle this?" I laughed and said, well, keep the 24 bucks, notify the credit guys, and we'll call it even.

"No,", says he, "How do you want to pay the $350 you owe?" Guy knows it was bullshit, knows I know it, and still asks me to pay. I ask to speak to his supervisor and there's 'nothing I can do' so I ask for his supervisor and the guy takes about 2 seconds to fix it. Even sent me a check for 24 bucks. Lesson learned: the lower level customer service guys are trained to fuck you over, and unless you asked to get bumped up, that's all they'll be able to do for you. Fuck you, BB&T, it's credit unions and online banking for me from now on.

Pretty sure most of the ones complaining are the same ones that don't read anything before they sign it. Banks make money off of people who are incapable of managing their account. Pure and simple. It's not the banks fault that you don't take the time to read through the fees and details about having an account before you deposit your money. I agree with the majority...DONT OVERDRAW YOUR ACCOUNT. What you fail to understand is that when your account is negative and you continue to spend money, you are essentially using the banks money....not yours so you deserve it. Oh and one more thing, pretty sure direct deposits come in (the majority of the time) after midnight, which is technically (wait for it...) the next day. Quit whining and take some responsibility.

sorry to hear that. I've overdrawn on a monthly basis and I've not once been charged. Overall I've had positive experiences with PNC

Bank of America, which still exists only because of being bailed out with tax money, hired a company called "Advanced Call Center Technologies" to collect debts.

The company broke just about every collection law in the book, including using racial insults and making threats of sexual violence.

Complaints to the Bank of America fell on deaf ears. One day, a reporter accosted Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan with recordings of some of the abusive calls.

Moynihan was upset, but he fired Advanced Call Center Technologies. He got caught with his pants down.

Then look at loan servicer, Ocwen. They make mistake after mistake and charge borrowers all kinds of fees. Ocwen is so inept and greedy that they have foreclosed on properties that have already been paid off!

Finally California and New York got fed up. The founder was forced out. The stock fell from $60 a share to below $10 a share. The company is selling off loans to stay in business.

But this is too little too late. The banks are out of control.

This guy didn't mess up at PNC. PNC screwed him. They know they can get away with it.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I got screwed by PNC as well. I've been with them (or their former companies before mergers, buyouts, etc.) for about 20 years, and they didn't give a crap about humiliating and offending me at every opportunity. I cannot recall working with a company that was so eager to find excuses to raise rates and to try to trap customers in the most unfavorable conditions possible. What revenue whores they are! Let's keep spreading the word and drive them out of business. There are good, moral companies that will gladly take their place.

It's really simple, so I'll type slowly...

It is technically illegal to write a check (electronic or otherwise) if you do not have SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN YOUR ACCOUNT TO COVER IT... WHEN YOU WRITE THE CHECK... not under the assupmption the check won't clear until before the deposit... as a courtesy, but NOT because they have to, most banks aggregate all your transactions for a single day, then do the deposits first before they process the debits... sometimes they don't... sometimes something hangs up the deposit transaction... Playing the "float" used to be easy when you were using paper checks and mailing everything: hand somebody a check on Friday knowing your paycheck would be deposited on Monday wasn't an issue, not so much anymore.

Where does a non-customer of PNC Bank go to get dick sucked? Is there a minimum?

The best thing you can do involves both getting revenge on the banks and improving your own situation. Pay down your debt, keep a cushion in the bank, and stop paying them interest and fees completely. It's not that hard, really. Just make the tough choices and forego some luxuries until you're there. It's TOTALLY worth it. The world belongs to those with 800+ credit ratings.

Agreed, PNC are cork soakers. I've been a customer there since when they took over from Rigg's Bank and at first, customer service and business hours actually improved! When I walked into the Oakton branch, they treated me like royalty. Over the last few years, however, customer service has severely deteriorated. First, they closed the drive-through. Then they got rid of the teller windows in order to force you to go into one of the side offices where they try to sell you shit you don't want or need while processing your transaction. Also, they don't seem to like to hire white people. For years all they seem interested in hiring are monkeys, dot-heads, and dune coons. I'm thinking of switching to Navy Federal, which I've heard treats their customers very well and you can understand them when they are talking to you.
