New Term "Open Carry Ugly"
Posted by: ewPxe ()

I have only seen a handful of open carry folks in Fairfax County but the one thing they had in common besides being attention whores is they were butt ugly men. I did some searches online and it seems to be a pretty common element. The open carry seems to be a ploy to get people to look at them but most people look at them in disgust, first being they have a gun and second, the clear "undoability" of them based on thier physical appearance. It is sad.

Funny you should mention this...the first time that I saw someone open carry was at a Five Guys in Woodbridge several years ago...two guys in their late 20s/early 30s...looked like they could not buy a date. Since then I doubt that any of the guys (always guys...never women) I encountered have seen the inside of a gym or run a mile in a long time.

The only difference is when I go to the gun show in Chantilly...more of a mixed bag and yes, I have seen a few women open carry.

That's actually not surprising. People who open carry do so mainly to get attention, they want a sense of belonging. Why? Because they get no attention in their everyday life. They cannot get a woman or friends so they join an open carry group because they think it makes them look tough and they can pound their chests about protecting the Constitution.

Those who are average to good looking get enough attention so they don't feel the need to generate more by walking around with a gun.

That's a part of why I conceal carry, I am not an attention whore. I have been married for about 5 years, care about my appearance, and am a firearm enthusiast.

There is something comical about seeing dudes in 5.11 tactical gear & oakley sunglasses with gigantic guts hanging over their belts. Probably haven't seen their pecker since the 90s.

Nailed it! The 5.11 gear is a nice touch, but my favorite is the guy I saw at Safeway recently fumbling with his Maxpedition bag looking for his wallet when he dumped an empty 9mm magazine and a bunch of cartridges on the floor in front of the self-checkout. Definetly someone I want holding a loaded firearm in the midst of an active shooter incident.

Agreed. I have OC but only for potential bear problems during deer bow season. For god sakes, if you are going to carry, keep it hidden. NOBODY needs to know about it, it just makes you a target for a bad guy. Being compentent with a gun doesn't always trump a meth/cracked/pcp crazy person. OC people make all responsible gun owners look bad. And for that matter so does the NRA.

Nailed it! The ridicule is a nice touch, but my favorite is the guy who has delusions of going to places of business (like a coffee shop) to talk with complete strangers about penis size. Definetly someone I want to remain institutionalized.

Billionaire Bloomturd, and the rest of the uber-wealthy, know that they can pay the dims a pittance for their fealty ... and the libtards shuffle along happily, muttering to themselfs and others:
guns are bad,

You do know that nobody believes your fantasies of trying to be tough. Everybody knows you are scared of people with guns, that's why you keep posting your BULLSHIT fantasies.

But keep them coming, they just make me laugh. Its the kind of laugh people have when a retard does something funny.

I just want to make it clear.

Guns save lives.

Studies prove it.

The only people who want guns banned are big-government Liberal Progressives. They only want power in the hands of the (federal) government.

No thanks, bye.

I'm neither pro gun or anti gun, really.

I do believe law abiding citizens who want to own guns should be able to.

However, never really understood open carry or concealed carry during the course of a normal day.

Is it just in case a gun fight breaks out in downtown Fairfax?

Seems rather silly to me.

Who knows.

Anyone want to offer a serious response?

Is it in case some sh** starts going down, or are they trying to show the world they got guns?

Something in between?

Don't open carry in Fairfax county. The pigs will disarm you and confiscate your weapon and claim you have to bring your proof of purchase to the substation to get it back.

By the time you go to pick it up, it will be in pieces. They'll tell you to sue them in court then give you the run around after you win. You'll be lucky to see your weapon in working order in 6 months.

Barney, you are an idiot . Open carry is perfectly legal here in Virginia and Fairfax County police are very aware of that. I open carry everyday and the cops don't bother you at all because they can't. Second, suing the police is not difficult and Fairfax has already settled litigation over open carry ( that's old news- 10 years ago). This thread is obviously just another anti- gun hit thread and will NOT cause one person to stop carrying. Do you really think we care what you sheep that depend on government for everything "think". I take umbrage with anyone who uses a weapon as a symbol of political statement. It is entirely reckless, more so in heavily populated areas. Carrying concealed gives you the tactical edge when presented with a threat. The argument that open carry serves as a deterrent lacks statistical credibility. Your ability to deter a threat is based on your overall demeanor, your projected confidence and presence, and most importantly, the ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally.

Moreover, the people in this area that I have seen openly carrying a weapon do not appear sufficiently capable of retaining the weapon should someone attempt to take it from them. They are commonly fat, bumbling, not self-aware, and I often suspect that they have not served in either the military or in law enforcement...probably because of their personal sloth and/or limited emotional intelligence

Last summer, I saw a fat slob at a Lowe's on a Saturday carrying an H&K USP in a Fobus paddle holster suspended from the over-stressed elastic waistband of his 3XL athletic shorts. The weapon bucked up and down, rattling in the plastic holster, with every labored step he took. A toddler could have easily grabbed the weapon, let alone a miscreant with ill intent.

The anti freedom types are comical. Why is it my fault that you shit yourself at the sight of a lawfully carried firearm? Do you need to change your adult diapers every time you see a LEO too? Who by the way are far more likely to shoot an innocent bystander than a citizen is. Just this week a cop shot his partner in the back because he doesn't know how to properly handle a firearm. Unfortunately there is section 8 housing close enough to me that we shop at some of the same stores. I find it odd how the sight of a lawfully carried firearm makes a certain subset of humanity suddenly act, human. You don't get that with a concealed gun. In 15 years of OCing I've never had to draw it, because people suddenly act like saints when they notice it. Carrying a gun, openly or concealed, does not mean you have a desire to use it. Though listening to the conceal only types it would seem they have a desire to shoot someone, since they have that all mythical tactical advantage. The tactical advantage I get with OC is never having to use it based on how people around me act when they notice it. I have OC'd, weather permitting, everywhere I am legally permitted to carry. In 15 years of OCing I have never had an issue, either with anti freedom liberals, or law enforcement. I've had people ask about the legality of it which I'm happy to explain, I've also had people leave me alone because of it. When you carry, concealed or open, you HAVE TO have your head on a swivel, be highly observant of your surroundings. Which if people would do anyway crime would go down.

I understand the anti freedom libtards mocking OC as they do the same for CC, but I do not understand it from other gun owners. We need to be united against those that would take our freedoms lest we keep losing them piecemeal. In Illinois, the FOID card is required just to buy ammunition, yet has no apparent effect on crime rates. That hasn't stopped other jurisdictions from attempting to place restrictions on buying ammunition though. It's been proven that the Clinton "assault weapon" ban had zero effect on crime, yet liberals are still trying to get similar legislation enacted. Which further proves its not about gun control. It's about people control.

What I do not understand, though I do not ridicule others for it as it has its place, usually in very rural areas, is long gun OC. Generally, long guns are for offensive use and hand guns are for defensive use.

Just because you have a firearm doesn't mean you should use it. That is why I also keep a baseball bat under the seat. Using a firearm should be an absolute last resort.

One thing I have learned over the years, if it gives liberals conniptions it is usually the right thing to do.

Actually, the real cowards are the libtards who have to run with the collective because they can't handle freedom. They seek safety in groups because they know they aren't mature enough to handle life's challenges by themselves. They try to control everything because they are afraid of life. They would rather have the false security of a government program to the real security that comes from developing self reliance and independence. Knowing that they don't have what it takes to achieve success, they lose nothing when they give up success to live in the shared misery of the collective. Leaders of the democrat party have made themselves rich playing to the fears and insecurities of the democrat masses. The success achieved by real men and women shames them, so they hate; because it's easier than examining and correcting their own failures. They hang out on internet forums and call people they disagree with cowards because, in their small world, causing pain is equated with power. Their personalities never developed past early adolescence.

Open carrying looking like skinny young dirt bags or fat slobs have no shame but then again some fools laughed at a young baby faced guy with goofy shoes too by the name of Kyle who open carried a AR 15 and knew dammed well how to use it when he was attacked

Kind of like that other young baby faced 5-6 US Army 2nd Lt from The Great State of Texas in WW2 Germany named Audie who had a chest of medals for heroism and wounds in combat the likes no one ever saw before on a US soldier
