Can I lease a car if my spouse has filed for divorce, but you have not signed the divorce papers yet?

My soon to be ex-wife has filed for divorce but I still have not picked up the paperwork or signed anything. I will be picking them up this week. My question is as of now or even after I sign the papers can I lease a car if it's in my own name and I am using my own money. When I talked about it with her because it is a matter of safety, our kids get transported in it, she went off the handle and started saying I'm not allowed to do anything until the divorce is finalized, but this is what her atty told her. I have not been able to find anything that backs this claim up. Any help is appreciated, my current car will not make it 6mos without some major repair and the hr. drive each way to see my children is sapping my wallet dry as the current car is a v8.

What would stop you from leasing a car other than lousey credit? I dont understand your question?

I'm worried that during the divorce process she can put a freeze on credit and purchases. I had a relative experience this.

There's nothing legal that can stop you from leasing a car. That said, if you go lease a $75,000.00 Mercedes, and then come in and plead poor with the court concerning child support, you're going to look like an idiot and you're going to get hit.
