that is helpful. NOT

There are 7,644 Main Streets in the US, 141 of them are in Virginia.

It would help when you post such things, you might want name the town/city it belongs.

If you look really hard on the right in the far distance you can see the original Arthur Treachers Chips shop which opened in 1902. Originally young Arthur was a prevayor of Whale blubber. That all changed when young Arthur deep fried a batch of extra delicious, golden crispy, hand breaded Cod.

Fairfax City, then the Town of Fairfax at the corner of Main Street (236) and Chain Bridge Road (123). I thought the old Fairfax Herald building would have been there at that time.

1903 was a simpler time without assholes like this.

Dude, I don't think we have to go back 117 years. I would say that up until 2000 it was a simpler time. I didn't even have a cell phone until 2006. Got internet in 1997. Assholes existed, yes. But without instant access you only had to deal with them on a very occasional basis. Now they just show up everywhere you go on the internet, radio, television. I'm ready to pack it in and go live a rural community where I may interact with people a couple of times a month. I really do not want to live out my days a bitter, pissed off person. And living in Fairfax has made me that way.

Fairfax looked like a shantytown. Geez, look at those rickety old buildings.

"Geez, look at those rickety old buildings"

a number of which are still standing today.

The scene we see would not be that unusual for even major American cities in the mid-19th century, or for a rural American courthouse community around 1900, which is what Fairfax was. Remember that 1903 was before the trolley line reached downtown Fairfax. It was before the Byrd era paved roads were constructed. It would be interesting to compare this scene with a view from the same spot in 1920 or 1930.

I have contacted the Fairfax City Office of Pictures, and have begun the paperwork process to move the photo. The process is expected to take 6 to 9 months, and requires a $1500.00 fee to be paid to the Fairfax Office of Pictures.

It cannot be moved. It cannot be moved here. It cannot be moved there. It cannot be moved anywhere.
