So you don't have any proof other than one other mechanic's opinion. If the store isn't willing to help you out, you're pretty well done here. You could sue, but that's a crapshoot. Now that you've had it fixed elsewhere, they can't help you out: they might have been willing/able to cut you some slack on parts profit and/or labor, but you've removed that option.
