Shell gas station in Leesburg VA caught cheating. Meter is running even though it has not started pumping gas yet. As you can see from the video, the pump is charging me, even though I'm not pumping gas. Still nothing from the gas station management.

Avoid this station. Apparently one of the pumps started charging a customer before the customer had pumped any gas. The interesting thing is the pump showed that it had just passed inspection. I recently learned that gas pumps rigged to overcharge customers is nothing new so always check your receipts. Another quick way to check for overcharging is pump 10 gallons of gas and then divide the total amount charged by 10 and compare that against the price per gallon advertised on the pump. If the per gallon amount you are charged is more than the per gallon price advertised on the pump you should ask for a refund of the overcharge amount.

Sorry, I was trying to warn people to check their pumps to make sure the gas station isn't cheating them, no matter where they get their gas.

My husband and I stop here because it is close to our house, but we avoid it for one reason. The reason is that there is almost never any receipt paper at the pumps. If you'd like a something tangible after spending $50 on a tank of gas, you have to go inside and wait in line behind people buying slurpees and scratch tickets. I guess we know why they are always out of that receipt paper now. What a pain!

Could happen if the interior hose gets ripped (ie driving off with hose in tank) then the vapor recovery would just suck it back to the stations tank. BUT it would not pass a Virginia Weights & Measures Cert.

Went by there this morning, it's still doing it. The management refuses to do anything about it and will not even go outside to see it. BTW, it happens on more than one pump. Now I've tried (3) and all of them have their inspections completed recently.

Jesus, now I'm really going to be checking those pumps.

The State of Virginia has a department whose job it is to see that you get a gallon if you're paying for a gallon.

They test pumps periodically and affix a sticker that you can look at. Not that crooks can't monkey with the pump afterwards.

Call them and they'll send somebody to check it out.

I pumped 20 bucks into my car at that very gas station a few weeks ago got in, look at the gas gauge and figured something was wrong with my car or the pump. Good to know and I am a Fairfax resident.

The obvious solution is to call the Weights and Measures number on the sticker you sat there and took video of.

If I were a police officer I would have arrested you for leaving a gas pump unattended. The valve assembly needs to be either safely stowed in the dispensing machine, held securely in your hand, or in the vehicle's tank fill interface. Anywhere else is dangerous, you claim with your video that the machine isn't working properly, and proceed to aim the valve where gasoline can spray on people. Total idiot!

The gas station isn't cheating you. I work in the fuel industry. This is what happens when there is air in the fuel lines. The air spins the meter even though fuel is not pumping. The dispenser needs to be purged of air. It's not something the gas station did, it just happens sometimes.

I wouldn't trust a pump that last passed inspection in 2011 either...

Here is the solution to this problem:

Buy $100 of gas each time you visit this so-called Shell in this so-called place called "Leesburg". Doing this, you will rest assured knowing that less than one-half of a percent of your purchase was stolen. Negligible enough to be ignored or grouped into an account on your P&L such as "loose change lost between chair cushions".

I was there earlier today, and the pump I used (#3) did the exact same thing. I asked to speak to the manager about it (who was not there), but the guy there reset the pump and I was able to pump gas normally. This is no mistake, this is not air in the pump, this is something deliberate.

This whole thing is getting silly. The weights and measures sticker shown above is from Wisconsin, not Maryland as the person who posted it said and some of you are slamming a Virginia station. Virginia stations have Virginia stickers. The complaints from the person who sites Yelp are about the station on the other side of Leesburg, not the address Brian Piper gave the address for. The video is from an old YouTube posting and has nothing to do with Leesburg. What's the motivation for this? Why hurt a small business with purposefully used misinformation?

I call BS, in the Yelp review the OP posted it listed the address of a complaint with YOUR service station as well.

I don't see his review on Yelp. However, it appears he broke Virginia's miscegenation laws. His FB page has him canoodling with a negress.

I had a similar issue happen to me at the Exxon @fox mill in herndon. I paid a little over $50 for 14 gallons of gas. My car's tank holds 17 gallons. After I leave the station I notice that I have less than half a tank of gas.

Would it make a difference by paying the attendant?
