The Region 3 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Ms. JoVon Rogers, currently the Acting Principal at Mount Vernon High School (HS) has been appointed as Principal of Mount Vernon HS effective Wednesday, July 1, 2020.
Ms. Rogers began her career in education in 1995 as a classroom teacher. She taught in Baltimore City and Prince George’s County school districts in Maryland and then joined Fairfax County Public Schools at Riverside Elementary School (ES). Ms. Rogers became one of the first Instructional Coaches in Fairfax County at Riverside ES and from there, worked as an assistant principal at both Riverside ES and Island Creek ES. She next served as the Principal at Gunston ES for six years where she was known as a dynamic, highly visible and collaborative leader. Prior to her role as Acting Principal at Mount Vernon HS she last served as Acting Associate Principal at Hayfield Secondary School.
Ms. Rogers is an experienced and distinguished leader. She co-leads FCPS’ professional development for aspiring principals. Ms. Rogers has also provided professional development on a national scale through her collaboration with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. In addition to her professional credentials, Ms. Rogers received the following distinctions: National Board Certification, the Superintendent’s Excellence in Equity Award (2019), Hayfield Pyramid Principal of the Year Award (2018), and FCPS’ Outstanding First-Year Principal Award (2014).
Ms. Rogers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and her Master of Arts degree in Teaching, Elementary Education, from Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland. She holds her Administration and Supervision certification (PreK-12) from the FCPS Accelerated Certification Cohort IV in partnership with the University of Virginia.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Rogers as the new principal at Mount Vernon High School! Ms. Rogers understands the rich history of the Mount Vernon community as well as the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of the students and families within the community. She looks forward to engaging staff, students, and families in the life of the school.
