texas atually held out on dui many years after most states as preventive detention in any form was consdered government tyranny

this is true. the statistical risk of driving drunk, while significantly higher than driving sober, is much lower than most people think. I dont remember exactly but its still only like 1/300,000 drunk drivers crash or get caught, which, in my opinion doesn't justify preventive detention in every case. many chronic DUIs know the point at which they can drive straight in front of a cop car - often as high as 0.20 with tolerance.. the dude nodded off behind the wheel gets off because he has a "prescription" for the morphine and pharma-doc says he can drive as long as he's "adjusted" to it so he can continue to commute to pay for his habit. the dude driving with a .09 who hits a van that had actually wrongfully crossed the median gets 20 years while the guy who is plastered at .30 who doesnt happen to kill anyone that night and is pulled over gets a slap on the wrist. one of endless examples of how categorical preventive detention, in any form, is unfair in ts very nature. if the government cant be 100% fair on an issue it must leave itself out. felonies used to be murder, arson, rape, robbery, treason and a few others.. now you download the new avengers movie and the can technically take ya guns.. Three felonies a day - read it!

It's really not that big a deal, once you've had a couple the only jobs you get are the ones that are fine with the missed time and no one really screws around too much.

But this is the problem, hanging with a crowd where a half dozen or more is common gets you're perception off. Then you've got super straight guys like you have here so you can't get a straight answer on what would be the average.

One is no big deal, I have zero and plan to keep it that way, but I know a lot of people with one. Two is bad, you didn't learn, although I understand two in a row because they went on tilt. Just got released from Coffeewood after 2 years. I have had 4 DUIs in the last 10 years and it is the worst feeling in the world. No accidents but I was considered impaired on each one. .09,.08,.09,.09. It don't take much everyone. I am half Chinese and half black so my tolerance is low. Take Uber or Lyft.

No. I did meet Mr. Jay Fasick who I have seen his crazy thread as the Pet Store Murderer. He is at Coffeewood and is doing ok. He says it was a self defense killing and he was attacked first. Coffeewood isn't that violent but it is still prison. Most people have less than 10 years so they don't do anything to add time.

Lots of employers look at driving records, coz motor vehicle incidents are very costly and something that can be somewhat controlled.
If you have duis or frequent tickets, you exhibit traits of increased risk and poor decision making, re driving.
