Actually Virginia turned Republican thanks primarily to carpetbaggers and fuzzies moving into Northern Virginia and Tidewater. Then the GOP changed and those same areas began turning to Democratic even before the latest waves out outsiders began arriving.

Kind of. It was 1960's democrat. You know, loved the confederacy, blacks were second-class citizens and hated the government and taxes. It was one of the most solidly GOP states in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. The tide of asswipes from MD and PA, combined with all the fuzzies from central and south american and the asian horde have turned the state democrat. Tidewater is still purple. It's Fairfax, Loudoun and slowly PWC that are driving the turn left. That's one of the many reasons the rest of the state hates this region.

Nope. It began specifically as a sanctuary movement and most did it based on political/ideological motivations not out of any concern for public safety. That was a later excuse added by politicians in an attempt to justify it to a larger base. Again, with no actual evidence to support that.

It has everything to do with sanctuary cites. That IS the origin of the US sanctuary movement which later expanded to entire towns and cities. With similar groups and some of the same people still involved and pushing the larger open borders movement.

That may be how you remember it. My memory is a little different. 1990 was the first chink in the armor when the 8th District went Democratic. In 1992 the Democrats carried the newly created 11th District. Republicans were able to recapture the 11th in 1994 with ztom Davis, but it cost the the Chairmanship of the County BOS which they have not held since. By the end of the decade the Democrats controlled the BOS.

What changed in the early 2000s wasn't who moved in but who moved out. The older residents who were in the military before a vietnam and who came here in the sixties to work for the Feds, and who voted consistently Republican in presidential elections, cashed out and left.

Libs are happy to vote for a pedophile like Timmy Kaine.

No, Bertha, there is no connection between the two. On the one hand, you have refugees actively fleeing from marauding death squads. On the other hand, you have a lack of communication between established local populations and first responders.
