Thursday night I got an email from Scott Brabrand that the schools were safe and would remain open. Tonight I got an email that an FCPS employee tested positive. The email did not come with Brabrand's resignation.

Coronavirus Update - Message from the Superintendent - March 14

March 14, 2020

Dear FCPS Families and Staff,

Fairfax County Public Schools has been notified by the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) that a staff member at Lynbrook Elementary School has tested presumptive positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff member is recovering at home and we wish our staff member a quick recovery. This is the first confirmed FCPS-related case.

We are working closely with the Health Department to identify individuals who may have been in contact with the staff member. The Health Department will be working to provide further guidance and monitoring. More information regarding this situation is posted on the Health Department’s website here. At this time, there is no evidence of sustained community spread of the novel coronavirus and the risk to the general FCPS community remains low.

FCPS was closed on Friday, March 13. Schools are scheduled to be open on Monday, March 16, to allow students to gather their belongings and for the distribution of laptops to some of our students; those activities will continue. However, Lynbrook Elementary will not be open on Monday. Lynbrook staff will coordinate directly with their families to make these arrangements.

The school building will remain closed while it is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

We will continue to work with our local and state health and government officials to navigate this evolving situation and provide supports. Thank you for all you are doing to stay healthy and informed.

All updates and information about COVID-19 will be posted on the FCPS website.

Sincerely,

Scott Brabrand, Superintendent
Fairfax County Public Schools

Schools Closed through April 10
Fairfax County Public Schools has been notified by the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) that a staff member at Lynbrook Elementary School has tested presumptive positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff member is recovering at home and we wish our staff member a quick recovery. This is the first confirmed FCPS-related case. Read more.
In support of the governor’s announcement March 13, and in response to the ongoing concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in our region, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will close schools through April 10.
For staff who work less than 12 months, schools will be closed for at least two weeks. We will reassess schools reopening for those staff members after two weeks and we will make that decision no later than Friday, March 27. The operating status of SACC has not been determined at this time.
The staff development day scheduled for Monday, March 16, is postponed. School offices and central offices will be open on Monday, March 16.
FCPS schools will be open Monday, March 16, for students and staff to access their belongings as well as providing laptops or other digital devices for students in grades 3-8 who do not have access at home.
SACC will be closed for the weeks of March 16 and March 23. SACC plans to offer an additional week of Spring Break services at consolidated sites the week of March 30; and plans to offer regularly scheduled Spring Break services the week of April 6. The system for registration for the weeks of March 30 and April 6 will be communicated to all SACC families.
Schools will be open on Monday, March 16, to assist with providing technology to students in grades 3-8 that do not have technology at home. Parents will need to attend with their students on Monday to sign a permission form. Students should also attend, so that they can log into the device before leaving school. Please check with your school on exact pick-up times on Monday.
Food distribution will continue throughout the closures. Meals were served at five schools today, with plans to expand to additional schools next week. Breakfast will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:

Bailey’s Elementary School, 6111 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church
Hutchison Elementary School, 13209 Parcher Avenue, Herndon
Hybla Valley Elementary School, 3415 Lockheed Boulevard, Alexandria
London Towne Elementary School, 6100 Stone Road, Centreville
Burke School, 9645 Burke Lake Road, Burke

Meals will be served at no cost to students. Adult lunches are available for purchase for $2.

I highly doubt there's an FCPS employee with this virus diagnosed. Prove it. Youre just butt hurt. The real spread of this virus will be the idiots buying TP at big stores.

Didn't the school board decide that schools would remain open, with everyone at risk for corona, so free meals could continue to a certain segment of the population? Once they got permission to continue to hand out free meals, then they closed the schools. After all, many board members directly represent the interests of their constituents.

Now that sounds about right. Thanks for the insight.
