started reading the stale jiffy lube thread. Noticed one of the first few posters said he had $35K "invested" in his car.
Unless a classic, you do not "invest" in cars. 99% of cars are a depreciating asset.

I invest in cars but only $300 at a time.. they almost never depreciate that way! Then I sell them for $5000 plus $699 processing fee even though my "dealer license" is printed on the inside of a Kraft Macaroni box. You should try it!

A good portion of the county pulls in a mid six figure HHI, spending $35k is not a big deal. I've spent at least $20k maintaining my e60 m5

A 17 mile Uber ride to and from work everyday? I don't think that would be very economical. And no, public transportation is not running at 3:30 a.m. when I am going to work. And no, I am not moving to the part of Fairfax where my employer is. And finally, no, I am not changing jobs and make far less money so I can work closer to home.
