Fairfax County Police is no longer reputable.

This has been bothering people for some time now. So here goes. When I came on the Department a long time ago, there was much respect for the Chief of Police. The Majority of Command Staff was well respected and well deserving of their promotions. Officers were generally happy in their morale. The Department was very well respected. And now, you can kiss all those generalizations goodbye.

Over time, the County became more political. The FCPD also became more diverse. The problem is that they had to lower hiring standards to retain minorities. There are a lot more minorities in high level positions now and they never should have been hired in the first place. Chiefs of Police made it their job to promote them even though they were not qualified. All to make a statement for their own job security. If you work for the Department, then you know exactly who I am talking about. Don't get me wrong. I am not a racist. I DO BELIEVE IN HIRING AND PROMOTING THE MOST QUALIFIED. That is not based on color of skin or gender. It should be based on knowledge, performance, and best qualified. If the best qualified is all female, or Mexican, white, black, Latino, or whatever, so be it. The notion of just promoting females or Asians is ridiculous. But look at the recent history of promotions and you will see that it is true.

So now the Department has become a joke because of this. Morale sucks. Leadership sucks. FCPD no longer has a national reputation. With the past few Police Chiefs, buddies have been promoted. They are not the most qualified and the majority of them have ghosts in their closets and should have been terminated in the past. But what you have now, is IA going after bullshit against well respected officers to get them out of the way because they are challenging the idiots in the Command positions. IA has become selective in what cases they will investigate because of Majors and higher ups giving them the go ahead or the nod not to investigate. The irony and double standards are incredible. The failure of Command Staff to follow their own policies and to selectively enforce them is ridiculous.

NEVER think that anything Command Staff says is truth. More often than not, it is for political gain. In recent years, many Command Staff officers have left FCPD to gain employment elsewhere and they are personally better off. What we now have left, is an ABSOLUTE JOKE. I would love to list each Command Staff officer and what violation of policy, reputation they have, actions they took, investigations and refusal to do investigations against them, mental status case, each have done. But that would possibly involve a defamation case. All I know is what has been told to me over the years, along with my personal involvement and observations. If you knew it, you would be pissed also. Most of it is fact. But how do you prove the fact, when the Department will cover it up and deny. They will refuse access to the case files. They even lock out the political reports where an officer can not even view their own reports they write. It is a damn shame these days.

FCPD is no longer a reputable agency. Change needs to be made to bring it back.
