You are confusing kilts with tartan plaids. Kilts can be traced back to ancient times, and their useage wasn't limited to the Scots or even Celtic peoples. Kilts made of plaid cloth would have been relatively rare until well after William Wallace's time. But I do agree that Braveheart was rubbish. How can you have the Battle of Stirling Bridge and not have the centerpiece of the battle be the bridge?
