Driver Hops Leesburg Bypass, Lands On Top of Sheriff Cruiser

A Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputy and five others were treated for minor injuries after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and landed his vehicle on top of the deputy's cruiser.
According to a Loudoun County Sheriff's report, A 24-year-old Norfolk, VA man was driving his 2002 Toyota Sequoia at 6:40 a.m. when he fell asleep and drove onto the median, WTOP reports.
The vehicle struck an embankment and became airborne, landing on the hood of a sheriff's cruiser parked on the crossover on the Route 7 bypass west of South King Street. The Deputy was taken to the Landsdowne Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital while the driver and four passengers were all treated at the scene.
The driver has since been charged with reckless driving.
The crash closed all but one roadway in both directions, causing significant delays in the area. All lanes are now open but motorists should still expect some delays in the area.
