What is a demit??

In Virginia you have plus points and negative points. You get plus points for having good driving or taking a driver improvement course. The most plus points a person can have is +5. That's it. Does not matter how many years you have been driving without accident or ticket.

You get negative points for tickets, DWIs, and accidents. Basic moving violations are mostly negative three. There are a couple with negative 4 but do not recall which ones. There are also some that are negative 6 points. You get too many negative points too quickly then the DMV will suspend your license. I do not recall what points are for accidents. Most equipment tickets and HOV tickets do not carry points. There is no max number of negative points a person can earn.

Chances are he means demerit, which would be a negative point or penalty point.

In Virginia points are good. Losing points is bad. Demerit points are negative points theat reduce your point total. A +5 DMV record is perfect and -5 is not good.

Check this site out for more info on demerit points
