In Florida, "The association may levy reasonable fines as a means of enforcement against any member or any member’s tenant, guest, or invitee for the failure of the owner of the parcel or its occupant, licensee, or invitee to comply with any provision of the association’s declaration of covenants, bylaws, or reasonable rules of the association." §720.305(2), Fla. Stat.

In Virginia, "The amount of any charges so assessed shall not be limited to the expense or damage to the association caused by the violation, but shall not exceed $50 for a single offense or $10 per day for any offense of a continuing nature and shall be treated as an assessment against the member's lot for the purposes of § 55-516. However, the total charges for any offense of a continuing nature shall not be assessed for a period exceeding 90 days." § 55-513(D), Va. Stat.

Something is missing from this story. I know. It's the part where the homeowner takes responsibility for his own screw up.

It is the City, not an HOA that is doing this to him...and rightly so. This guy is trying to pass himself off as a victim of fate when he is actually the author of his own circumstances. Socialism? Hardly. This is called being responsible.

The city of Dunedin, Florida, wants Jim Ficken’s home.

Ficken’s mom died, so he went to South Carolina to take care of her estate. He asked a friend to look after his house.

But then the friend died, and no one cut Ficken’s grass. When it grew to 10 inches, Dunedin officials started fining him $500 a day.

The fine is now about $30,000.

Stossel had a show on TV news investigating government money corruption

great show for a while - it was taken off air - probably during Obama (do ya think?)

didn't know he was still pumping out the investigation articles!

it's the kind of show rich people pay well to insure doesn't get in the news

Stossel's mode of operation was to not "go for the throat" continually, but to uncover interesting scams or wastes being run that are the result of corruption

(so - he didn't go for democrat's house leader owning wholey chinese stocks not american stocks and having an asian wife - instead he might find some string of stories relating to how taxpayers were paying double for some cafeteria food - more his style not to go for the throat of the who what where why when how of the real largest MONEY leaks)

Jim-Ficken-Dunedin-resident-550x330.jpg

this, believe it or not, is the Tom fool they are going to send weaponed militia to his door seize his home

that's right - he has a mower, is in good enough shape to mow and guess what: HIS LAWN IS MOWED (note the picture is taken after the fine issued - the matter is already resolved)

i'd rather just see the county supervisors head, bloody, on a plate PERSONALLY

also - his garage door is getting ruddy, but his windows are pretty clean

he probably has bad eye sight. the "made in usa" tin driveway lamp, non rusting, could use a dab of black pain

While Jim was out of town, the man he paid to cut his lawn unexpectedly died.

OMG and the county has the balls, cahones probably, to ask for MONEY ? they should send him flowers.

the lamp though - we could use a little love on the lamp

a girl on TV at a rally said during OBAMA election, referring to all the obama scandals, illegals etc, after OBAMA won or something

"democrats have suckered all the suckers and are now digging into people who aren't going to be so easy"

Jim Ficken is one of those people who isn't going to be suckered. OR is he a plant. OR THE COUNTY is using him as a "model" in the news, will crush him, so that area denizens fear the government and know seizures are coming (like they do in fairfax, va)

EITHER WAY - IF Jim Ficken wins the day in court it's a LOSS FOR CONSUMERS either way: either way the shinnanigans continue

HEADS ON PLATE

Which cousin of Tom's moves in after he kicks it?

OR DOES A political family kid suddenly buy the place and move in with his new wife and government job - a manager at the age of 20 ?

be clear, that if you get an ORANGE sticker on your car and it says it will be booted and towed if you don't pay the government - THEY INTEND TO DO IT - even though you never owed money and the system that said you did was "mistaken" (just a mistake the corrupt gov workers will say)

so stupid millenials are not confused

yes - if you get a notice like that - even if it is in error (a computer generated error)

the gov DOES PLAN TO SEIZE YOUR POSSESSIONS with force

THOSE NOTICES ARE NOT REMINDERS - THEY INTEND TO DO IT AND INTEND TO USE WEAPONS

if only this story were unique

the only unique thing that could occur is having the county staff's head on a plate

mere resolution of their attempt at armed seizure - totally inadequate
