In VA, threat or use of deadly force is and should be limited to immediate defense. Until a gun is illegally brandished it doesn't matter if someone is "potentially" armed or even if they are "actually" (legally) armed. They reholstered and asked for my driver's license and registration. I handed them my attorney's business card instead and asked them to please call my attorney.

After a Texas minute, the officer on my side said I had a tail-light out. I handed him my license and registration. They went back to their vehicle and came back in 10 minutes with a citation for the light. I drove away.
