Kamp Washington Walgreens closes June 18. Seems like they just opened not too long ago.

You are so correct. That place was always empty and across the street from CVS. Never understood why they opened at that location.

My guess is that all local Walgreens are hurting. Seemsike their investments in local stores were made just prior to the Express Scripts - Medco merger and Express Scripts black balling Walgreens. I had just started shifting my business to a new Walgreens when express scripts took over and have barely gone in it since.

Who would've guessed that we didn't need a Walgreens/CVS/Rite Aid every 50 feet in Fairfax? Hopefully, it'll be replaced by a Mtn Kim Martial Arts studio, a branch of Bank of Amerika, a nail salon, or a dry cleaner.

Walgreens really seemed to just move into whatever location they could get their hands on, thinking that people will choose them over an existing CVS or Rite Aid. Off the top of my head, the 4 next closest walgreens all have a cvs within walking distance, Pan Am, Main Street, west Springfield and centreville. Plus, does this kind of store really have that big of a draw? You can get everything they sell at your local supermarket or Target. Why make a separate trip? The last time I was in a store like that I was doing something else in the strip mall, but by locating in freestanding structures, or otherwise away from anything useful, what's the point of going there when their prices are so much higher anyway. Maybe walgreens will do better when cvs stops selling cigarettes.

The Walgreens network had grown bigger since the first post had been posted here, it had developed into a real giant since then. BTW, if you had a negative experience with these guys, feel free to leave your opinion about Walgreens here https://walgreens.pissedconsumer.com/review.html , so that more people will see it.
