This morning on my drive into DC from Vienna I saw a bag on the side of the road, I thought it might be a school kids or something so I picked it up planning to take it to James Madison.

When it was in the car it was smelling pretty bad so i peeked inside and I think it might be cannabis. It is a large vacuumed bag (like the ones you use to store clothes) with one corner cut and re sealed with tape, inside it is a green herb.

What shall i do with it? I am scared to take it to the cops, I don't know anything about dope, but i don't want to just throw it away in case kids get hold of it.

I am a single female (if i had a boyfriend I would ask hi to take care of it!)

I have to agree I wouldn't notify the police. One would think that is the right thing to do, but the risk of being charged with possession is too "high". Not sure if they will believe you found it by the side of the road, but at the same time who would be crazy enough to turn it in to the cops if it was yours to begin with? Cops may have an arrest first, let judge sort out later position on that.

One idea is put it in a black trash bag, find an apartment complex with a common dumpster (not yours), and throw it away there (less chance of commercial cameras around). Just don't do anything stupid driving and get pulled over. Problem with this is while you are in possession of it and traveling around, depending on the amount you could be looking at felony possession with intent to distribute if there is enough in the bag.

Next time open a bag before you take it away with you... wtf, what if someone's pet snake was in there? Or an explosive? Just leave things alone and they will take care of themselves, be nice to others in ways that are personally safer (volunteer at a soup kitchen, etc).

I have no idea. I would say in size it is about the same as two regular sized shoe boxes, give or take.

If somebody is computer savvy and determined enough you are traceable already.
Once you realized what it had you should have just put it back where you found it. Now you can't.
I'll tell you that I have found the police here to be extremely professional, balanced and fair minded. They are not out to harm you if you don't deserve it.
You need to bury it somewhere. You haven't told us how much it is but if its high grade even a small amount can be worth A LOT of money. Bury it so if the "rightful" owners find you, you can give them their pot back. I wouldn't throw it away for that reason.

This is so hot! Either foundbag is a cop or meetup4bag is a cop, probably the latter, keep in mind that in VA over a half ounce is a felony. I doubt the police would charge you if you turned it in as long as you initiated the turn in instead of waiting for them to pull you over and then mention it but you never know- injustices on a greater scale have happened in the world. The best advice is to either trash it if you don't want to get mixed up legally, or give it to a very trusted friend that might smoke Cannibus or know someone that does and have them pick it up. Keep in mind that if you give it or sell it to someone you can also be charged with Possesion With Intent to Distribute More Than One-Half Ounce of Marijuana, again a felony.
