This message is sent to all parents of FCPS students and KIT Plus subscribers.

What do students, professional athletes, corporate executives and others do to reduce their stress-levels, and improve their focus and performance? They practice Mindfulness.

We invite you to attend Managing Stress: How Mindfulness Training in Our Schools Can Benefit Students, Educators, and Parents, on Monday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Woodson High School Auditorium, 9525 Main St., Fairfax, VA.

Join Congressman Tim Ryan (Ohio), five-term U.S. Representative and author of A Mindful Nation, and Tara Brach, Ph.D., a nationally recognized mindfulness teacher and author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge, as they discuss how practicing mindfulness can help improve your ability to respond to events and circumstances in your life with clarity and balance. Scientific evidence supports the benefits of mindfulness.

This FREE event is a partnership between MINDS, The Josh Anderson Foundation, and Fairfax County Public Schools. For more information please email info@mindsincorporated.org

I give you Mz. Tara Brach, Ph.D....

As an undergraduate at Clark University, Tara pursued a double major in psychology and political science. During this time, while working as a grass roots organizer for tenants’ rights, she also began attending yoga classes and exploring Eastern approaches to inner transformation. After college, she lived for ten years in an ashram—a spiritual community—where she practiced and taught both yoga and concentrative meditation. When she left the ashram and attended her first Buddhist Insight Meditation retreat, led by Joseph Goldstein, she realized she was home. “I had found wisdom teachings and practices that train the heart and mind in unconditional and loving presence,” she explains. “I knew that this was a path of true freedom.”

She can be one with the universe all she wants, as far as that goes, just make sure it's on somebody else's nickle.

This would actually be an FCPS-sponsored event, so while it's actually spelled "nickel", none of yours or mine would be involved. Our taxes are not ours anymore once we pay them, you know.

The program itself might well be a help to some people. The confused, disoriented, and generally unbalanced of FFXU come to mind almost immediately for instance. Here is a flyer for the program. Check it out...

What a waste of money. She'll probably hold a mass chant on a turf field and try to get everyone to levitate or something.

This is just another reason to vote the irresponsible democrats off of the school board and board of supervisors. They have fallen under Tara's spell. Om Padme Mane Hum to you too!

If you put Tara Brach in with Boosterthon you get a weird cult combining meditation and child abuse. And, all at taxpayer expense!

Mindfulness would obviously be wasted on those without a functional mind to begin with.

"Mindfulness would obviously be wasted on those without a functional mind to begin with."

And there are plenty of those so there's lots of waste!
