Dear Fairfax Villa Elementary School Parents and Community,
As you are aware, your principal Ms. Bumbrey has been offered and accepted the opportunity to serve as the principal of Virginia Run Elementary School effective January 7, 2019. We are appreciative of her more than 3 years of dedicated service to the Fairfax Villa community and wish her all the best on this next step of her leadership journey.
I am pleased to welcome Mr. Dave Gerstner as your Interim Principal, effective Monday, January 7th. Mr. Gerstner brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position having served as a dedicated educator for over 14 years. He is currently the assistant principal at Floris Elementary School and previously served as the assistant principal at Daniels Run Elementary School. Prior to beginning his career in administration, Mr. Gerstner was a teacher and assessment coach at Franklin Middle School.
Mr. Gerstner’s focus as a leader has been on establishing strong relationships and a welcoming school culture with all stakeholders. He has a record of success in leading instruction that results in high academic achievement for all students and has supported the implementation of innovative practices that promote Portrait of a Graduate skills in all students. While Ms. Bumbrey officially begins her new position on January 7th, she will be at Fairfax Villa periodically for two weeks to support a smooth leadership transition for the staff, students, and entire Villa community.
We will begin the search for your next principal in the coming weeks. An important step in this procedure is to inform parents about the principal selection process. Therefore, all parents/community members are invited to attend an important meeting on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fairfax Villa library. We certainly hope you will be able to attend this meeting. Another critical component to the process is your written input. We invite you to offer your individual, written input (preferably via email) regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Fairfax Villa Elementary School. You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address. Input is confidential and will not be discussed at the meeting. We welcome your input now, upon receipt of this letter, and are hopeful that many of you will share your thoughts. Below you will see suggestions for input and how you would submit it to the Department of Human Resources before January 16, 2019.
