You seem not to understand that your problems stem from the fact that in PPACA, you did not get an all-at-once single-payer system like what most of the rest of the developed world has. Like them, we are apt to end up there, but transition from the disastrous for-profit, fee-for-service model will be a gradual, careful process since millions of lives will depend on our moving slowly.

There was meanwhile no promise that your insurance rates would not go up, nor that your insurer would or could continue to offer the same plans year after year. If you heard any of that, it was because your brain was not working properly at the time. Ditto for doctors themselves simply deciding not to keep you as a patient anymore.

Best example of a single payer system - The VA System. A trainwreck. Single payer systems only work for the healthy and rich. Who the fuck wants a government employee, who's accountable to the government, providing you with healthcare?

Dude, go google 'medical tourism." Leaving the US for medical care elsewhere is a major industry. What the wealthy do come here for is niche and concierge medicine. But just as with France, we'd have that deluxe overlay model on the menu even if single-payer were to be adopted.

It depends on the details of the practice. I take health care seriously and see a variety of specialists regularly in addition to my GP. All of them take Medicare which is my primary cover. After the premiums, I pay nothing at all for a doctor's office visit. No co-pay. No deductible. No nothing. All this helps to assure that any problems that might arise will be caught early, when they can be treated more effectively and more cheaply. This is how things should be for everyone.

Ridiculous. It's only the most successful for those who don't have insurance. When Obamacare was passed, that meant about 20% of the population in the US. Otherwise, the 80% were generally pleased with what we had.

I actually think Obamacare was a good idea terribly implemented. It's too screwed up now to fix. But single-payer will only screw over those of us who are happy with what we have. Luckily, I'm well off enough to supplement whatever healthcare I need if I have to. But my kids and, eventually, my grandkids will be the ones having to pay for the foolish lies of single-payer Nirvana.

Salvage the best ideas of Obamacare (coverage for pre-existing conditions at a reasonable cost, basic health check ups once a year, catastrophic coverage) and throw the rest away. Single payer is going to cost trillions of $$$ a year once fully implemented according to the CBO, doubling the current discretionary federal budget. We can't borrow enough to pay for it and we can't tax enough to pay for it. It's just simple math.

It is HEALTH CARE that costs trillions of dollars per year. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Health care has to be paid for, and systems based on universal single-payer coverage are the most efficient and effective means for doing that. This is why single-payer France as an example can be recognized as having perhaps the best overall health care in the world while paying far less per capita for it than laggards such as the US.
