The couple appeared in this Washington Post story from November 2011 about military families struggling at Fort Belvoir.

In the post article about struggling families she is quoted: “It’s like a hidden world,” said Army wife Amy King, 36, who lives at Fort Belvoir. “People automatically assume because we are in the military we have it good, with everything given to us. They don’t understand we have to struggle just like everybody else does.”
Later on her husband is referred to as a decorated Army Medic.
This theft will be the end of his career and more than likely they will be off base housing very soon. The Army has many relief agencies. Too bad they did not take advantage of them and did not think of their futures. And why doesn't the PTO have an auditor to catch thefts. I feel sorry for their children.

In No way condoning, but I will simply say this...if you are going to be a thief, have some honor.

Don't steal from the people who write your paycheck or the people that raised you. I don't care how bad it is. They should be able to trust you...if you lose your family and employer's trust you have NOTHING LEFT IN THIS WORLD.

PTO's are independent non-profits. They don't have to audit anything unless they darn well please. And it costs a LOT to have a professional audit, so a lot of them don't even bother. PTO's are independent of the school system, also. There is nothing they can do to help the parents. Yet, parents feel a duty to support their parent organization to help out their school.

The families probably elected these people to have the right to access their money even with the news article describing how financially desperate they were that they stood in line at a food bank for handouts. The officers in these groups are not screened at all. It is whoever has the time to do it and raises their hand to volunteer. They are handed the checkbook and access to the bank accounts and off they go.

Stuff like this happens all the time in these groups. They may or may not have insurance to cover the lost money. There are still deductibles and proving that you did what your insurance company expected you to do to protect your funds, like reviews/audits/reconciliations. These groups are very casually run. Parents turn in their money with blind trust. The officers can put out anything they want to show what is being done with the money. The financial reports can be doctored to cover up what they are doing.

There are many, many wonderful parent support groups but the problem is you never know how things are going to go. Look what happened at Navy Elementary. Higher demographics, nice area of town, etc. Just more to steal.

Parents, beware.

If this guy is on active duty, turn him over to the Army and let them handle this under the UCMJ. That'll teach him a lesson.

Stealing from kids and parents. Asshole.

I am sure we will have to listen to what good intentions they had and how sorry they are and how they will pay it back etc. etc. etc. That's the typical scene with this kind of stuff.

I looked up Grayson's Mill Lane and it is in Lorton, VA and it is a neighborhood of beautiful half million dollar+ homes. How does an enlisted guy with a disabled wife and three kids pay for that? How can they even afford to rent something like that? Even if he is not on active duty any more, an Army medic doesn't go right into a job with a huge salary right from active duty. Are they living with family? If so, they are probably getting a good deal on living expenses.

Food bank, sob story, embezzlement, grand larceny. And money to pay for an eyebrow piercing (what else is pierced-any tattoos?).

This is getting more and more interesting, which is also pretty typical of these situations.

Looked up the Fort Belvoir Elementary School PTO tax returns. The latest one published closed out June 2011. They are behind on these.

About $65,700 gross receipts with $43,000 of expenses, Fundraising brought in $5400, Dues $2400. Other years were similar.

So, if vendor checks were bouncing.....hmmm.

They are months away from getting a love letter and a huge bill from the IRS. Three strikes with no tax return and you are OUT.

Problems problems problems. Did they have any insurance? Who is going to pay all the legal bills? Oh crap.

His LPN license was issued 12/27/2013.
If he committed the crime while on active duty, he is still eligible to be possibly tried under the UCMJ if he is receiving retiree pay, is he not?

I pay taxes. My taxes pay for this [presumed] asshole's retirement pay.

If he committed a felony on active duty, why should he keep his honorable discharge and retirement pay, and if he committed the felony after he retired, why should he be allowed to keep all of that pay.

I hope this situation doesn't get ignored.

Once people figure out what it is gonna cost to pursue this and that you probably aren't going to recover anything, nothing will be done. it will be just another hit and run and they will get off scott free. sad but true. their lawyers are probably figuring that out already. they will be paid but nobody else will.
