A second teenager involved in last week’s car crash in Haymarket has died, Prince William County police said Monday.
Battlefield High School student Savanna Kidane Mouratidis, 15, of Haymarket died of injuries she sustained in an April 20 car accident involving five teenagers.
Battlefield High School student Kendra Kaeleen Tucker, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the students were driving along Logmill Road, just west of James Madison Highway, when the driver hit a deer, lost control of the 2005 Dodge Magnum and went into a tree. Police said speed was a factor in the crash and the teenagers were not wearing seatbelts. The crash is still under investigation.
A 17-year-old involved in the crash was treated and released last week. Police officials said they did not have an update on the driver, an 18-year-old boy from Gainesville or a 14-year-old girl, who was in critical condition last week.
Last year, three other Battlefield students were killed along Logmill Road in two separate accidents.
On Friday Prince William police said they will initiate an educational program for teen drivers and their parents. The program will be for Battlefield students, but police officials said they hope to expand the course to other schools next year. Police said the details are still being worked out.
