WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County Public Schools employee who last week was charged with threatening a co-worker is facing additional charges, police said Tuesday.

Last week, 57-year-old Fairfax County Public Schools maintenance worker Girard Thompson, was charged with making an oral threat to commit bodily harm to another school employee at his worksite, Fairfax County police said.

Following an investigation into the threat, police discovered he threatened another school employee and was involved in an assault. The additional oral threat and assault charges stem from two separate incidents in August and September of 2017, police said.

Thompson was arrested without incident last week, processed and released. He turned himself in to authorities Tuesday morning and is being held at the Adult Detention Center.

Police have not released details about the nature of the threats.

Thompson was based out of the Sideburn Support Center and was assigned to work at various school locations as needed. FCPS has suspended Thompson without pay, police said.

Fairfax County Public Schools did not immediately respond to WTOP’s request for a comment about the assault and threats.
