Has anyone ever traveled cross country?

Has anyone ever traveled from Fairfax to Phoenix Arizona in a car before? I'm planning on moving there at the end of August. Very curious how that route is. I'll be traveling in a Corolla.

A Corolla? You won’t even make it over the Appalachian mountains.

You can't get there from here.

Oh, you are driving a Corolla, that changes things...

(It always amazes me, the ignorance of some of the posts here.)

Have done it. Use I-40. Thats about 40 hours of driving. 10 hours a day for 4 days, 3 motel stops enroute. The corolla is the perfect vehicle for this. Don't try to drive more than 11 hours a day or you will die in a fiery crash.

Did the trip 4x.
If it’s before December, take 85 south thru s Carolina towards I-10 and then drive they Texas then head south from flagstaff.

I did I-40 in December in a 2 door civic and saw the grim reaper multiple times. Mountains like a MD. Truckers going 80 on icy roads etc...
I-10 seems longer but beautiful to cross the Mississippi.

Only dangerous part is the elk crossing signs driving south from flagstaff! These fuckers are huge and your corolla will lose.

The 10 crosses southern AZ through Tucson then north to Phoenix. It doesn’t go through or near Flagstaff.

Big step down from NoVa to anywhere in AZ. Unless you're somehow into cactus, tarantulas, and scorpions.

Phoenix seems like one endless sprawl of strip malls and housing developments. It doesn't even feel like a city, more like Fairfax county with alot less grass and trees. A buddy of mine moved out there 20 years ago, and although he loves it because it's "home", he's always talking about how he wants to move back here. That says alot. Tucson seems a bit more interesting, definitely a step down from Phoenix but with better weather.

I've done it in a Kia! You can also go across on I-70 to Denver, then south on I-25 to Albuquerque to I-40. Can be done in less than 40 hours, and I-70 is pretty civilized the whole way.

Drove from Sierra Vista Arizona to Denver and then Denver to Fairfax. I would do 495 to 270, 270 to 70 West, 70 West to 25 (Denver), 25 South to 40 West, 40 West to 17 South.
