Further research showed me that between 125-150 LEOs do the same each year.

It is because we see the worst of the worst and have bred a society within ourselves that says we must be tough and take it, or we can't do the job. This also leads to the issue we see develop right here. Bullying, Putting others down, Not Valuing another, and on and on ad nauseum.

In one post, I was attacked for 'throwing my comrades under the bus'. I thought that was amusing considering how this thread was started. But that is my point! When are we going to stop this childish middle school behavior and start helping one another?

Anyone who thinks it has been just a couple of days so, therefore, they must be in the clear, is insane.

The grand assumption in a lot of these posts I'm reading is that the abusive comments whether or not they were true, true in part, or outright lies at the time, were the motivating factor in Nicole's mind for her to take her own life. We don't know if this is the case but most of us can agree that the nature of comments WAS abusive and an awful thing to post, whether they were true or false.
We did not see anyone refute the comments directly within this forum and we don't know if Nicole ever read them herself or knew of them.

Would it be logical to suggest that there must have been a lot going on in her life, much, much more than some brutish comments on a forum, which motivated her tragic actions?

Whatever the case may be, I pray people will learn from this situation; to think before posting ugly comments about someone.
I also want to note that despite the negative comments now in question, I did read a post in that thread which gave compliments to her.

If the "Techie" poster wanted to remain out of the scenario, but the spouse of Person A was someone they cared about. Maybe an anon post here, FB or wherever was the only way they thought they could let the person being cheated on about it.

I think there is a big difference between "She scored a 48 on a Par 3" and "Such and Such will be at this event giving BJs in the parking lot".

However, if you commented "She is such an idiot. She sucks. She can't do anything right. She scored a 48 on a Par 3. Women shouldn't play golf. " It changes the picture. Or if the comments that followed your simple statement of my score stated that.

As far as the news, they are supposed to have a source. As you probably know, there have been some big cases of late where reporters claimed to have sources, wrote a story that was published and then called into question and then couldn't supply thier notes, losing thier jobs, and being ostracized by the entire journalism field. Not a pretty sight. But it is thier job to report the news. In our now 24 hr a day news cycle, we want the news Now. They need sources. And sometimes people lie.

I agree completely with you about the car comment. Vile but not probably not illegal.

I just did an author search under Nyhwj and then YcCu6 to try to find it, as a lot has been written and I wanted to read it so I could reply to you. Neither pulled up anything except for the single replies here.

Sadly, that picture is still up. But this thread is now at 20 pages and it we have moved past the page it was on.

And I think this has become about more than her. Nicole brought the National attention to this site, but the vile things said about other woman, other races, Volunteer vs. Paid, the language used, the other pictures posted... These are ALL things that need to be addressed within FCFD. It shows a consistency of uncaring for your fellow human being with the group of posters.

None -Few of us reading this know what was in her letter. We know the media drew people here because of the possibility of cyberbullying. But Bullying in the Fire Service is VERY REAL. Maybe Nicole's story can save 1 life.

There is no case to button up. No laws have been broken - at least not on this site. Posting factual observations is legal. It's not illegal to be a douchebag. No one is going to jail over anything and it's doubtful anyone in FXFR loses their job over this. If you don't want people filming/photographing/characterizing something you are doing in public - on the internet - then you shouldn't be doing it. I know that's hard for some of you snowflakes to understand.

And that's why I posted it again. It hasn't been taken down. So I didn't assume it was her.

Why?

I'm sure the authorities have already identified the perpetrators. Literally all that is required is a simple subpoena sent to determine the IP addresses of usernames. There's nothing truly Anonymous on the internet. Even deleted things can be retrieved easily. It's only a matter of time before these men are unmasked and prosecuted under The Bullying statute. I know this to be true because I am a lawyer and have been a criminal prosecutor for 20 years. Their conduct absolutely falls under the parameters of the statute and they will be prosecuted, taken to task and they will suffer the humiliation now.
The train of Justice moves slowly but it is going to run you all over. Now your lives will be destroyed and your families will be the ones left crying.

If you make a factual comment such as, "Jane runs slower than I do" I see nothing wrong with that.

However, if your comment contains words like, "Jane sucks. Jane shouldn't be a FF. I beat her in the 1 mile run. She is only good for F---ing." or if your comment was the factual one I posted above and the responses that followed contained the examples I just used, then there IS a problem.

The same can be said if it was "John that ran slower"

It turns into posting a simple fact to posting Bullying remarks. However, if Jane or John ran across your remark about running faster than she or he on social media, and complained, then you have most likely still violated the Code of Ethics for the FD.

VA has a law that addresses computers used to harass, speak lewdly to or about someone, etc. Meanwhile, FCFD has a Code of Ethics that each member and employee must follow that goes into much greater detail about how people must treat each other. Each has been posted and quoted in here. They can be found on, I believe Page 19, possibly Page 18

If it is felt that VA State Laws have been broken, why wouldn't a judge help them? Even more so when there is now a National spotlight on it, and more importantly, when the citizens of Fairfax County want answers.

I made no assumption it was from a FF. I made the assumption it was from a person. But you just proved my point about attacking one another.

It starts with love. As simple as that. Hold the door for someone. Smile at someone. Pay for the person behind you meal. Only say or type what you would want said about you.

Being a first responder takes, among many other things, compassion.

Even as a FF, you may be in the back seat of a crumpled car holding neck stabilization while an elderly woman yells because her open compound ankle fraction is trapped under the gas pedal.

You may have to hold the hand of screaming man all the way to the hospital all the way to the hospital because he is in pain.

You may need to push all of your feelings aside and compassionately treat the drunk drivers injuries even though he just killed a family of 5 on the way to Church.

You may have to hug a crying man outside of a house fire because he has just lost everything he owns, including his beloved cat.

You may be rescued by, or need to rescue, a Volunteer or a Paid FF.

This job is for the special people. Those who have love in their hearts for others. Whether a Vollie or Paid. It is a calling that you either have or don't have. It is a job that you can pull it together and smile at 3 AM when you get the call for 'Person Down'and it is one of your usual. And you do it because you love people.

I see no compassion, no love here. And I pray that my family in Fairfax never needs the Fire Dept

Yes, indeed I do. It is something I work with every day. And these "Silly Little Things called feelings" also known as a Hostile Work Environment is very real. It is also recognized that people, more so in some sectors, feel they are unable to make a complaint. It is also recognized that Cyberbullying, including while off the the clock, has become a huge part of HWE and Work Place Sexual Harassment. And finally, it is recognized that Work Place Sexual Harassment is no longer just the 'boss that says you can't get a promotion unless you have sex with me' but has become much more wide spread to include gender harassment, sexual orientation harassment, comments about intercourse while others are present, comments about what others are or are not doing sexually, the size of one's parts, etc.

There has to be proof that a HWE existed. What proof do you have of that?

That's what a judge will look for. Proof that a fellow employee posted it. Proof it wasn't her husband, a gf of a ff or anyone else.

I understood exactly what you said. I am going off of the posts I read, and I read them all. I am not speaking about only Nicole. I feel the issue is beyond her. And I don't think it is solely an issue w FCFD, but an issue with every medium to large company in any sector where you have a few bad apples.

Given the wording and my personal knowledge base, Sadly, I personally believe it was FFs that were speaking in the first few pages of this thread. Do I have proof, No. But it is not my job to get proof. That is left to the Chief and the police.

After reading the posts by emergency workers it terrifies me to think that someone's wife, daughter, son may be in the care of people so simpleminded, morally bankrupt and spiritually dead - I can imagine the compassion and dignity they would receive. It saddens me to think that the citizens of Fairfax are not enraged. You should be - your community appears to accept this behavior - and it makes ALL of you appear ignorant and morally bankrupt. 1. This is not representative of most Firefighters, here in Fairfax or anywhere else.

2. A lot of this seems to have popped up over the last decade or two as more guys on the job come from out of the area. The influx of guys from Pennsylvania doing 2+ hour commutes, then talking crap about the very people they swore to protect and serve, those that pay their salary, has expanded exponentially the last 10 years. Guys were guys, but they were still gentlemen in the late '70s through the '90s.

Instead of being a man and asking for proof that the "abuse" came from actual firefighters, you put your tail up, showed your asshole, and said not all firefighters are like that.

Past MoCo EMT has it exactly right (other than continuing to argue with the morally deformed shitsack who craves the attention for his miserable little self). These are the people who you're supposed to depend on to watch your back and if necessary save your life, yet they're the ones who are more likely to torture you. This forum has exposed the culture of the rank and file of FCFRD. The most ignorant and inferior of the human race, in their miserable existence they hate everyone who's different: women, volunteers, other races, citizens at large, anyone who has a different opinion on anything from decency to NASCAR (and at least one Fairfax FF in the news calling for cops to be put in body bags)...they fear and hate basically anyone who's not a white male redneck from Winchester or southern Pennsylvania or whatever trailer park or holler they're commuting from in their pickups to work in Fairfax for 24 hours at a time.

I'm a white male fire medic who used to work for Fairfax County. I was lucky enough to escape to a major metropolitan department, where it has been night and day in the professionalism, culture, and attitudes. As I said before, there are decent and professional people still left in the department. To them I say: you're right to be pissed off to be tarnished -- around the fucking world -- by these inbreds who posted on here. So do something about it. Don't just ignore them in the station when they're going on about all the crap you've seen here, the racism, the sexism and outright misogyny -- all the stupid lowest denominator crap that happens when a large number of young, poorly educated, low intelligence males get together in a large group. (I've served in a combat military unit as well, and have seen it there, too.) Call them out. Don't tacitly approve by not voicing disapproval. Yeah, I know it's hard to do, when you're supposed to be a family and you spend more time with your shift than you do with your family. But what kind of a "family" is it that hazes and bullies its own members? Fuck them. The only way the culture is going to change is from within, just like society at large. I took the easy way out and just left for better pastures. But if that's not an option for you, then fight your own right to work in a decent non-toxic environment, and not to have the community look at you like you're an inbred pervert like the ones here. I hope that Techie 7 and his lowlife little pals are indeed fired. But that isn't going to be enough. Fight for what's right. That was a big reason you got into the service in the first place, wasn't it? To help people? Start by helping your brothers and your sisters; all of them, regardless of anything other than they wear the same uniform. Actually, he is one of the only posters not jumping to conclusions. He is simply debunking every other post with logic.

Who has been bullying your fellow FF'ers that brought you to this thread?

I coach kids in an effort to impact my community in a positive way. (I know, the horse gets higher and higher right) I just assumed the people taxes pay to keep us safe were doing that for the same reason. Go figure.

Facts... I'm just going off the lot of you spouting off and body shaming Co workers in a public forum. Which is just about all that fxu is good for I I realize. Forgive me for thinking the people who have to look at dead bodies shouldn't encourage people to kill themselves.

Im a heavy guy myself but my coworkers even the ones who may not like me don't bother posting about it on here, or any other public forum.

As for a job others can't do... some of these PDs have I maximums, and how hard can it be to shoot unarmed colored people. Did you know the average accuracy of the police in terms of shots hitting there target is less than 40%?? That I believe I can do better than personally. I have friends in the military, pd, and FD. Not a one of them would ever make most of the posts some of you do. And sure as he'll don't walk around with the sense of entitlement half of you do.

As I said in my original post, I joined 30 years ago, and stayed in. I also started in HR, specializing in HWE and Training for F&R at the same time. It meant I could retire at a young age and now have of consulting for smaller depts and assisting them.

The goal is always to stop behavior before it have than to take someone's paycheck.

And that, gentlemen, is why I'm here. Trying to save you from yourself.
