Link?

And if this is the case...it certainly explains why it's been so depressing over there lately...of course, I just thought it was part of the charm. The seller is going to make a fortune on that land.

Sorry to hear it. I have not been in there in many years at least 5-6. Prices got high, Lots of the food was so so. Glascock owned the land, he died some years ago. that may be a reason. Times also changed people would flock there at midnight after drinking years back, lots of young people there at that time. Early AM regulars would be there every day. They have died off. Younger people around there today that are working, they have many choices to eat at and a old "Redneck" place just is not hip anymore. First time I went there was back about 1973. JC Daniels "Mom" Who were cooks,The blond waitress who was there many years maybe till the end. I remember many of those who worked there and Lenny who owned it and I think Frost diner in Warrenton. Yes I will miss it. It was a part of my youth.

1AM some night a few years ago: "Oh look honey! A quaint diner! Let's stop for a bite to eat"

We drove by slowly. The place looked dark, uninviting, and scary. Despite that foreboding demeanor, it was still better than Denny's. We ended up at Amphora. It is old dark gaudy greek, but I was less concerned about food quality.

Neighborhood rumor is that the whole corner behind the 29 will be developed
for both commercial and residential. Look out for "affordable housing" for
illegal immigrants. As if we don't have enough problems with traffic around
here anyway. The area behind the 29 was designated as a flood plain for
decades but it seems the Fairfax City Council can shit miracles when there's
enough money involved. Wonder how many rings had to be kissed to pull this
one off?

The area could certainly use expanded asshole-confinement facilities. That would cut the traffic at FFXU at least...

"Times also changed". and phony expression still are a lie that don't pay.

i don't beleive the real owner would agree to sell. would sue county for destroying what must be a good business

i'm guessing whoever is talking IS NOT a legitimate - more likely a snowflake hired by falls church democrats posing as legitimate. maybe they are stealing the property.

--------------------
anway ...

don't worry sharon bull o va democrats had a very similar diner built near condos very close to taj majal fx co center (and a mall, and their own route 66 escape exit). they don't need a business they already copied and destroyed using tax money !

The food was terrible but there is still value in a vintage steel diner. The owners really should have worked to update the menu in order to create lasting appeal for local residents. Instead we were left with terrible service, an uninspired menu, and in order to pay you had to use the ATM. There's only a handful of "real" diners left in the US, and this was one of them. The old Carvel down the road was also an original steel diner; albeit with a shitty facelift. Forewarning: if FFX property managers continue to raise rental rates beyond feasible norms, we as consumers are going to be left with only one option...awful chain restaurants.

Some truth to that. But it was a greasy spoon diner. Prices got to be too high
for whatever reason. 2 eggs bacon home fries toast a cup of coffee 10 dollars with tax. Down on Huntington Ave at JJ's they make the same thing 7 dollars tops.

I talked to a friend who she and I are personal friends of the owners of the land it sits on and he is up there trying to bring the diner up to code and find someone who wants to reopen it. Fairfax City is screwing with the Glascocks for code violations hoping they will fold up and sell to put in condos or some BS crap to increase property tax revenue.
They need someone to pay rent basically once they get the city off their asses.

If they could bring up the quality of the food ever so slightly, I would eat there 3-4 nights a week, even with a slight increase in prices.

Its in the Master Plan. All property owners have to bring their property up to [master plan] code when they turn it over (renew leases), I think.

This part of Fairfax is a major blight and needs to be redeveloped. You really like all those car lots? Nobody does. Planting more trees didn't help anything. The place is disgusting. Guests coming in from I-66 on Rte. 123 wonder if I live in a car junkyard. Coming in from I-66 on Rte. 50 they ask if I live in a landfill. From Nutley Street they think I live in some section 8 district.

Fairfax City is a shithole.

I live in a very upscale area near Vienna, but I drive all of those roads with considerable frequency, and I have never had any of those thoughts at all. The problem may be that you are a douche.

there is no such thing as a "master plan" by the county using other peoples money, such as loaning gov money to make townhouses for mexicans in lorton.

if there is i'm going to try to have them jailed
