Local Cyclists...

What's your fucking deal? Why do you take riding a bicycle so seriously? It's a bicycle. Children ride them too.

Jump out on the W&OD trail on a weekend and see how many dirty looks you get from these spandex wearing girly-men on their bikes that cost as much as a car.

Seriously. It's a bike. You're a recreational rider. Why the spandex?

Oh...MTB too. Why the spandex? What's that spandex gonna do for you when you eat shit off of a feature? Why do you wear spandex to get dirty in the woods?

Que?

"Take The Bus", I think you miss the point...but it's ok because you take public transportation. Not much can be expected from one who can't get themself from point a to point b...

The point was that the spandex clad, mini-Armstrongs that clog our bike paths and trails need to realize they're riding BICYCLES, give the non-single-minded folks out there a break and CHILL OUT themselves.

I know you don't see much of this between your couch and the refridgerator. It's ok...

Spandex is for the wack jobs. I wear cargo shorts and regular shoes - no clips for me and you would never see me on any trail on the weekend unless its in the Shenandoah Valley

There was a cyclist today who almost got clipped by semi-truck on 29 today...

I drive a smaller car and had to put 1/2 a tire into the left lane to give him a safe berth, the semi was behind me and I saw in the side-mirror the cyclist giving the truck driver dirty looks because they were sooooooo close....(the cyclist had on a long pointy helmet so I could easily see him looking at the semi - it was a like a canoe on his head- dont even think about questioning my driving)

What the fuck is up with you Cyclists??? Just because you have a legal right to ride on the road doesn't make it safe.....

If cars have to be crash-safety tested, I think bikes should too...

Road racing and MTB/recreational are 2 different animals. You can't get a decent road bike for under $1500.

What's next? You can't go off-road unless you have a fat-tire bicycle?

The baboon-ass spandex is at least partially a SWPL sex fetish thing. I've caught them messing around off the trail before.

You must have a $6,000 Specialized or Trek road bike with a closet full of spandex...

I never understood why bikers wore spandex and tight clothing. That was until I began seriously biking (mountain and road) in the early 2000s. The first thing I realized was normal clothes get caught on the seat and other parts of the bike.

Remember, hard core bikers aren't going 5mph. They are going 20-40mph on the road and there's a lot of movement. Unless you bike you wouldn't understand.

chafing and wind resistance. you don't wear street clothes in the gym for stationary bikes or even the other aerobic equipment. the clothes are made to dry quicker. nothing grosser than wet gym equipment.

You're right. Even though I bike tens to hundreds of miles a week I just wouldn't understand.

Seems to me like overkill. Seems to me like you're one of those guys who has to have all the gear the pros do so you can feel the part?

And that's just for road. Don't get me started on dudes running through Fountainhead in a great, big WONDERBREAD spandex onesie...

You pay for protection and quality. The 20 dollar shorts don't have much crotch padding, tend to be heavy, and wear out quicker.

Seems OP just can't take his eyes off other guys' butts. Sounds like a repressed homophobe. Probably masturbates in private while fantasizing about sniffing spandex shorts.

There are some 30 and 40 something cyclists who put on spandex, look in the mirror and see Lance Armstrong. The rest of us see some 30 or 40 something stuffed into spandex. I think at some point wearing spandex became a way of proving you were a hard core cyclist. As for function, when I was in my 30s I had no problem doing 50 miles in a couple of hours, wearing sweats or shorts and a tee shirt, depending on the weather.
