Camping Options for Grilling, Drinking and Relaxing

I know that all or most VA campgrounds prohibit alcohol but are there any places closer than Shenandoah that are a little more lenient on the rules?

I know Burke Lake rangers check on you constantly, even if you’re not doing anything.

Any more laid back camp grounds?

Take a little ride out 66 and beyond to experience "dispersed vehicle camping" in the national forest. You can find informal campsites along the forest service roads. There are no rules about alcohol except in some developed recreation areas. The NFS rangers could care less what you do as long as you do not leave a fire unattended or leave trash or disrespect the land in any way. Stay away from national parks as they are heavily regulated, National forests are the way to go.
