Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Just looked outside and saw snow coming down lightly. Weather forecasting sucks these days. They said snow tomorrow. Schools will probably be closed tomorrow.

Yes. Same here. It's been snowing for the past hour or two and has the roads covered. The news showed it's actually river effect snow off the Potomac. It's snowing along the west, northwest side of the river.
Um, where I live you're expected to go to work in snow, as in 6 to 12 inches and more! It's a nightmare! School buses are often cancelled but if you walk, you're expected there.

where do you live? I left fairfax at age 18 and never looked back, although I do visit sometimes. In the winter, on occasion, ill be woken up around 6am by a school bus driving by with snow chains on. If it gets much over 6 inches they generally cancel school. oddly enough they apparently build 5 days into the school year that they call "arctic days". I guess the kids have assignments they do at home and it counts as a school day. Does anyone recall ever seeing an FCPS school bus with snow chains on? If so what year and where at?

I thought you were kidding. Looked outside and the street and sidewalks are covered in snow. So far it has melted on the driveway..

It's actually a part of climate change, but the stupid are too dumb to realize it.
I grew up in Northern Pennsylvania. They used a road grader to clean all the back roads. I never missed school due to snow. They never cancelled school and it snowed a lot in the mountains. Everyone had to switch to studded snow tires on their trucks in the winter and if it got really bad the chains would go on. The only time I remember having to walk out to the nearest paved road that was cleared was after a blizzard with 6 foot drifts in some places, as they were late clearing the roads. This was in the country. Temps were often below zero in the winter, and there would be beautiful ice gardens forming as frost developed on the windows.
