There really is hope for those who wish to retire outside Fairfax County.

Not only hope, but something to really look forward to.

As I have mentioned in previous threads, I pretty much grew up in Fairfax County. Met my wife here, sired our crotch fruit here and sent them to FC Public Schools and then on to Virginia public universities, made a living by driving up and down 95 day in and day out, rooted for the Redskins, etc., etc. I have no regrets -- the place is a wonderful area to make a living and raise kids.

But the happiest day of my life is when I sold my overpriced Fairfax Station home, waited to make sure the check cleared, and hit I-95 going South. Some things I miss; but most things I am glad are behind me. I hope my sharing will help you decide whether you want to live in FC the rest of your days or whether greener pastures are ahead. This is my story and your version may differ because of your circumstances.

BRB, need to refresh my Saturday evening cocktail.

Sorry I had to stop my post. Got a call from a fellow boater that someone was messing with my crab traps. A poacher.

I'll continue this thread at a later time. Crabs comes first. Hope you understand.

Crab poachers should be hung up by their toe nails. They are the worst. Just because a crab pot is on your route doesn't mean you have the right to haul it in. Those pots are colored coded to designate it's owner. Anyone else, should just keep on cruising.

Fairfax county will (already is) be a third world country by the time the freshman class graduates in 2018 from FCPS!

Hilton Head is nice no longer ascesible for many average retirees.
Good for you PG. you have no regret of leaving FC. I assume.
Yeah crab and fish always come first for many fishermen like us.
Best wishes and watch your crab pot.

What a heart warming and unique story!

A person makes their living and raises their family in NOVA. Bitches the entire time about the area and then retires to some economically depressed but wonderful locale and lives happily ever after!

Damn, I wish I had thought of that!

I grew up in ffx county. My dad made lots of sacrifices and thought it was a good area to raise a family. What a mistake. The area is nothing but a bunch of whiney and bitching elitist libs that don't give a shit about anybody. I moved when I was young and love it. I do own some real estate in ffx but won't be unloading that for another 30 years. Passive income. Anyway. Fuck you.

Hey Petey, be sure to get regular colonoscopies.

If you don't, you may well have a WHOLE LOT more to worry about than crab pots in paradise!

All the reasons why people come here by the droves to begin with are reasons why they should stay here by the droves to end up with. But morons regularly pull up stakes and move to some one-horse, low-tax, middle-of-nowhere pea-patch or other and then try to pretend that they aren't flat out miserable. LOL! The idiots only get what they deserve.

You, kind sir, have no fucking idea what you are talking about. People come here for the jobs and the money. It certainly isn't the weather, nor is it the quality of life. Once they retire, those two things are not what they need or desire. Anyone that has the option to move once they retire, and doesn't, is a fucking fool. Even if their crotchfruit are still in the area. A wise man once told me, when I asked him about where to retire, "retire to somewhere where your kids will WANT TO come visit you."

Federal employees take a 60% pay cut the day they retire.
I grew up in Pea Patch and have lots of friends and relatives
who still live there. I love Pea Patch. Lower cost of living,
lower taxes, and very little traffic. Miserable? You gotta
be kidding.

Anyone that uses the "LOL" meme is probably not anywhere near retirement age and has no frigging idea what a decent retirement is. Kids these days.
