Fair Oaks Police District – An investigation is underway after a 15-year-old boy reported being filmed while using the bathroom at Red Robin in the Fair Lakes area on December 26. He saw a figure over his head and noticed a cell phone pointing at the urinal which appeared to be recording him. When he confronted the person, he realized the suspect was an employee of the restaurant. The victim left the bathroom and told his mom, who then notified restaurant staff.

The victim’s family left the location and called us. Officers responded to the restaurant in the 13000 block of Fair Lakes Shopping Center to get more information and to identify the offender. However, restaurant employees would not provide information about the employee to our officers. The case was turned over to detectives from our Child Exploitation Unit who wrote and executed a search warrant at the restaurant the following day.

The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old boy from the Herndon area. His name is not being released due to his age, and charges against him are pending for unlawful filming of a minor and possession of marijuana.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to please contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800. If you think you or someone you know may have been filmed while in the bathroom at the Red Robin restaurant in Fair Lakes, please contact us.
