MOUNT VERNON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Twenty-one mobile homes are damaged after a gas explosion at a trailer park Thursday morning.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials responded to the 7800 Eagle Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. because residents reported smelling gas.

When fire officials arrived on scene, they found that an explosion had occurred, damaging 21 mobile homes and displacing 11 people. William Moreland with Fairfax County says the number of people displaced could rise.

Officials say the mobile home where the explosion occurred was occupied during the explosion, but there were no injuries reported.

Guess it's not just tornadoes that mobile home denizens need to watch out for.

When fire officials arrived on scene, they called for the police, who did more than the fireman as far as helping the residents.

Could be. They said a gas leak. It has been cold and we've been having to crank up the space heaters....just a thought.

I love how you all jump to conclusions based on where it happened. If this happened in a rich neighborhood in tysons you all would be sending condolences....

Not on FFXU, they wouldn't. They'd be posting messages saying how happy they were that 11 rich folks got burned out of their homes and how disappointed they were that no one was kilt.

Publicly expressing near-rapturous glee at the misfortune, misery and suffering of others is a core component of the TALB so often paraded on display on Fairfax Underground.

i reported a

strong

smell of gas at a grocery store to manager who said "oh well we already called for repair but they didn't find it yet"

i reported it to FCFD, saying such a strong smell could be immediately dangerous and the manager seemed to be indifferent and non-sequitur about it

FCPD calmly told me "we don't care it's the stores problem not our job to go out there and do anything"

These people used to be rich, now thanks to the system, they live (lived) in mobile homes.

MOUNT VERNON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Multiple mobile homes were damaged and eight people were displaced after a gas explosion at a trailer park Thursday morning.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials responded to the Audubon Estates Mobile Home Park in the 7800 Eagle Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. on April 17 because residents reported smelling gas.

When fire officials arrived on scene, they found that an explosion had occurred. Officials say a single mobile home was on fire from a natural gas explosion. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes, which had also extended to a nearby shed and two vehicles.

Ten mobile homes were damaged in the low order explosion, causing broken windows and siding damage. Three other homes also received fire exposure damage, according to officials.

Eight people have been displaced.

Officials say five people were in the mobile home during the explosion, but there were no injuries reported.

One mobile home is a total loss and the total damage is estimated at $62,000.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the gas leak and the ignition source is undetermined.

Damn. I've never really looked at that area's aerial photos. That's a big trailer park and a huge fucking stretch of what appears to be a ghetto.

I'm surprised GerryManderer2 hasn't chimed in with his usual hate speech about trailer trash and how he hates poor people. He'd be happy as a clam to hear about trailers blowing up.

I guess he's too busy elsewhere posting about his hatred of Jews, Christians, women, Asians/Chinese, and homos. (Did I get them all? It's such a long list.)

I live only one trailer away from the exploded trailer it was a complete tragedy. I'm happy that no one was hurt! I'm actually disgusted by the comments I see here! There's nothing more cruel than to call other peoples homes trash and ghetto! And frankly I love where I live and my kids do too! So for everyone saying stupid and ignorant things can go to HELL!

Um, you're on the wrong website if you're looking for anything closely resembling sympathy and compassion here.

yea in some states/areas there are trailer parks with respectable people and children can walk around safe

some parks even don't allow young people to keep the old people from having to deal with it

democrats in fairfax closed a trailerpark of a friend of mine, his father died

later. guess what? a fairfax county employee's bank is built on the same lot they kicked families out of.

this friend died i hear, job take by a mexican of course, but his equipment, tens of thousands of, was left behind. i have no idea if he's really dead or if his death was reported (if they did not kill him for his stuff). i could not find record. authorities will not help.

there are trailer parks with good people and safer than fairfax to be in - less robbery - safer to let children around in - than a better part of fairfax. which is a pretty disgusting record for fairfax to be beaten in standard of living by people with so much less to work with.

thank you for posting pictures firegirl.

i don't understand it's one place a few effected it appears. but it's not a pipeline rupture that went unreported and no deaths yet reported, that's good.
