I read the "Hot Zone" http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Zone-Terrifying-True-Story/dp/0385495226/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232894623&sr=8-1 when it first came out in 1989 and was truly amazed that that this was kept from the public. If Ebola Reston was as deadly as Ebola Zaire or Ebola Sudan, we'd all be dead. Reading about what the Ebola virus does to the human body (basically liquifies your internal organs until you "bleed out") I felt physically ill.

I found this information on Wikipedia: "The physical building in which the outbreak occurred was demolished on 30 May 1995 and a new building constructed in its place. This facility, which is part of the Isaac Newton Square office park, became a Kindercare and is a Mulberry Child Care and preschool center as of 2007."

And this: http://library.thinkquest.org/26568/e_reston.htm

Hazelton Research Products is still in the area, but they changed their name to Covance because they didn't want to be associated with the Ebola incident.

Ebola Reston was incorporated into a little-known computer game, "Emergency 2" There is a misson where 3 monkeys escape from a lab infected with a virus and then contaminate a playground and supermarket.

The crazy part is that there is day care center about 20 feet away from the old laboratory.

Interesting that strain showed up overseas. I was under the impression that the ebola virus was very unstable out of the host.

Ebola burns itself out quickly because it acts so fast and is so fatal. What you have to look out for are those diseases that infect someone and lets them linger with the disease for several weeks before death...like a human version of H5N1.

I did indeed not only discover the disease, but I then infected myself with it and spread it around DC via sexual transmission for the next ten years. Most people in this area have it.

I just wasn't thinking ahead... I didn't realize it has no effect on humans.
