Woodbridge man dies after being struck by car

A Woodbridge man struck by a car on Minnieville Road in Dale City on March 29 has died of his injuries, police said.
David Fitzhugh Mann III, 27, died Thursday. He was hit by a 2009 Nissan Murano about 8:15 p.m. on March 29 as he attempted to cross Minnieville near Darbydale Avenue, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
The driver of the Nissan, a 57-year-old Alexandria woman, was traveling eastbound when she struck Mann. He was flown by helicopter to a trauma center, but didn't survive his injuries.
Perok said speed, alcohol and drug use were not factors.
"Investigators are continuing to investigate which party had the right of way at the time of the collision," Perok said.
No charges have yet been filed. Police would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the incident. Call 703-792-6500.

What's that supposed to mean sven? If you're jaywalking across the street, that means you don't have the right of way. Of course, they didn't say he was jay walking, but they did say he way trying to cross Minnieville near Darbydale Avenue.

I know the family and have met David. Such a sad time for them; Mom is heartbroken about losing him, especially when the accident happened so close to home. Our prayers are with this family during such a difficult time.

The report states he was struck while trying to cross Minnieville NEAR Darbydale. That tells me he wasnt at the actual intersection and was most likely not in a cross walk and that's why he got splattered.
Pedestrians who cross mid block because they are too lazy to walk to the intersecion where there is a traffic light and a crosswalk get no sympathy from me.

ok sure. i feel sorry for the dead guy especially
by past legal standards the maximum payout is something like $10,000 (covers burial and possibly a small ammount for family suffereing)

the reason for that is twofold:
1) if a large payout is offered then families will try to kill their young boys. not all. but plenty.
2) the family didn't suffer the boy did. he's dead he can't be paid. the money for him would necessarly go to an unbiased charity. however many charities these days are found buying mercedes or doing things anything but politically unbiased
