I signed up with Carefirst in Fabruary. Got that Obamacare credit and now only have to pay $85.00 a month and I have health insurance. Made an appointment for my first physical in 7 years for later this month. I'm a little nervous, but now I can finally afford to go see a doctor.

I have a friend he has his own one man service company doing power washing and windows. He makes an honest living and takes home a 200-300 dollars for a days work. Not bad at all but not enough to live well in this area.
He is in his 50's and had no insurance. In the fall I brought him to the hospital for an operation. He had had to pay cash for everything up front. Took him a couple months to save up. It was interesting to witness. The hospital started tacking on all these extra costs no one with insurance would even notice. My friend who had spent months would have none of it. "what is this charge? Why are you adding it? I negotiated all this all ready!" It would have been 1000's extra but just by noticing and telling them 'no' they backed off and removed the usery charges. They were ripping him off and he stopped them.
Anyway with the ACA he can now get insurance with his pre existing conditions and take care of a lot of physical problems. If this were not the case he would have run out of money and suffered until at long last the er would have had to charge us for the bill.

A lot of people are going to get healthy and more productive because of the ACA. That would have been the case even more if these Repukes expanded Medicaid. Job lock is gone too so we might see a spike in small business start ups which is critical right now for the country. There are going to be all these unexpected positives from the law in the short term.

Primary care in network for general Dr. visit do not count towards deductible. 30 co pay and that is all. Switched to a platinum plan last month and am 100% happy with it. True my deductible potential is greater but it is also true that my monthly premium are half. Deduct is only 1600 anyways sooo... no big deal.

It was outpatient and he needed a ride so I helped out. Great surgery. He had been walking around with one eye so clouded he could barely see out of it.

... by the way I didnt say he was poor I said he earned 2-300 bucks a day. Im guessing he earns 50-60k. That is double the poverty rate. The surgery was somewhere around 3-5k Im not really sure. Anyway that a lot of money. He was able to negotiate a lot of it. He has a bum knee too but cannot afford to get that worked on.
At ~60 he is going to start to have more and more health care expenses. Im glad he will get some of it covered now. It still wont be cheap by any means but at least he wont end up becoming impoverished by medical costs so long as he can work.

I work for a privately owned company. I had great insurance last year. The owner, making a normal (and totally predictable) business decision, cut his contributions to my plan. I pay significantly more for significantly less coverage this year.
But, I don't matter because I'm a white, middle-class male who has a job.

I signed up for the bronze plan at 213.37 per month but my employer gives a 87.50 per month subsidy. It is better coverage than I had with the state plan at a lower cost. I was hesitant to sign up at first but now I'm sure glad I did.
