Accident Saturday at 123 & University

Did anyone see the accident that happened near the intersection of 123 and University Drive around 7:30pm on Saturday? It looked like there were 3 or 4 cars on University near the field house and a black Ford Explorer on 123 that looked like it had rolled over. The driver's side and rear were a mess and the front windshield was heavily damaged, but it wasn't what you would see from the FD rescue operation.

That doesn't really seem to be a high speed section of 123 and I was just trying to figure out what might have happened. Someone on University trying to beat the yellow?

No, it was a staged terrorist attack for training purposes.

I saw that shit!

I drove by it about 6:50pm, and it appeared like it had only happened within the last 5 or 10 minutes. The cops were still putting flares down.

I didn't see any other cars other than the black SUV that was up against the chain link fence down in the ditch. As I drove by, I could see firefighters at the driver's door, the passenger's door and the right back door.

It was hard to really see since it was in a ditch, but from what I could see, the SUV had obviously done at least one flip before ending up where it did.

In the intersection, there was some debris, so it looked like the car might have come off University really fast making a left onto 123, and maybe hit a car making a right turn from the opposing street.

But I didn't see any other cars.

It's hard to say how bad the accident really was, but as I drove by there were firefighters that appeared to be trying to extricate people.

But, damn, If that was still going on 40 minutes later, it must have been pretty serious.

By the time that I drove by they were doing cleanup and the only fire apparatus on the scene appeard to be Truck 403 from Fairfax City. There were a couple of wreckers 50-100 yards down University (near the field house) with cars that appeared to be damaged which I assumed were involved.

I know that SUVs have a high center of gravity, but there must have been some significant speed in order to roll over. I guess if you were fleeing the cops you might be going that fast, but in order to beat a red light?

IF anything ever goes down in FFX, count on Bob to not only comment, but also witness the event. Dude, you are my superman.

That was the first thing I witnessed that was mentioned here.

And, I didn't witness the event, I just witnessed the scene after emergency personnel arrived.

It probably had more to do with there being a ditch that it rolled into.
