Ringling Brothers Circus shutting down, animal activists get partial credit

Ringlings Brother's Circus will shut down forever at the end of their Spring 2017 tour.A Ringling's spokesman blamed a substantial decline in ticket sales and high touring costs. He also said the removal of the elephant acts caused a major plunge in ticket sales. The Washington Post gave partial credit to animal rights activists for shutting down Ringlings.

This is a major victory for animal rights actvists. Assuming nothing changes between now and May, activists will have succeeded in shutting down all of an infamous animal abuse industry by forcing an end to just one part of it, the elephant shows. The elephant shows were strategic in that along with the tigers they were routinely featured in Ringling's marketing. In recent years circusgoers have reported seeing tigers beaten onstage and other animal abuse as this circus has deteriorated. The last time they held a public "elephant walk" in DC, trainers were caught in video brandishing bullhooks and the elephants were never publicly paraded through DC streets again.

Presumably this Spring's final Ringlings tour (including DC and VA) will include the usual animal rights protests against the still ongoing beatings and torture of animals such as tigers. The elephant acts are gone, but the elephants were just sent back to Ringling's training facility, the "center for elephant conservation." This raises the risk that the elephants and all the other animals may simply be sold to the highest bidders, presumably other circuses.

ok. So are zoos next on their list? then what? African safaris because they expose animals to people and vehicles? Or maybe because the animals aren't allowed to eat the people which they may do if the vehicles, other people, and security aren't there? Maybe after Trump takes office he can help cull all the butt hurt, tree hugging, hippie, animal lovers. Or at least give them something else to bitch about. What about all the people that work for the circus that are now being kicked to the curb. There goes more tax dollars to pay for unemployment.

You'd better believe zoo's are on their list. Also, no more pets or "animal companions" as they call them. This would include dogs, cats, birds, and even
fish. They also want to shut down the commercial meat and fishing industries.
Sport hunting and fishing too. These people are nuts.

I wonder if they can be considered the other white meat? I mean lets be honest they usually aren't super organized, don't usually at too much attention to anything going on around them except for what they are doing, and usually group together. They really are easier to catch then starving fish in a barrel.

these Animal Rights activists are nut cases

They care more about animals than humans

We have plenty of social problems that need addressing - issues that are far more important than animal rights.

BTW: Kids loved Ringling Bros circus

I went twice as a kid - in '73 at the DC Armory and '78 at the Capital Centre. I still have vivid memories of both. I bought a cool toy raygun at the first one and the Trapeze show at the second one was awesome.

No animal, except for a human found guilty of serious crimes, should ever be confined. Our war started with the circuses and ends when only guilty men and women are encarcerated.

Will they rename Bailey's Crossroads now to remove that shame?

These days, kids would rather play video games and sext then go to a circus with their family.
