Join us for our 2nd annual 5K Walk and candlelight vigil in honor of the 2014 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Every April, law enforcement agencies, along with organizations and communities, join together to observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This week is set aside to promote victims’ rights and honor crime victims and the individuals who work tirelessly advocating on their behalf.

This free event is hosted by the Victims Services Section of the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation and it kicks off at Fairfax Corner at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. Join the caring professionals that support local victims of homicide, trauma, sexual and domestic violence, child physical and sexual abuse, stalking human trafficking and suicide as they walk together.

The event will feature a resource fair with over 15 vendors from local and national service providers, live jazz, rhythm & blues by Steve Shillingford and Peter Khan of the E and Me band, opening remarks by Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler, Jr. and Commonwealth Attorney Ray Morrogh. There will be a candlelight vigil in honor of victims at the conclusion of the walk.

Register today at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NCVRW2014.

Other public observances for Victims’ Rights Week include a public proclamation by the Board of Supervisors at 9 a.m. on March 25 and a fundraiser for the immediate needs of crime victims on April 10. Eat lunch or dinner at The Green Turtle in Fairfax City and 20% of the gross sales will be donated to the needs of crime victims. Flyer is attached to this email.
