Sobriety checkpoint at Nats Games? Within RFK?
Posted by: pgens ()

I was flipping through stations Friday morning and heard some guy calling into the Junkies program saying his daughter went through a sobriety checkpoint as a pedestrian at a portal in RFK as people were departing. Anyone run into one of these? I can see random checks of drivers heading out but what can you blow on a breathalizer in DC to avoid a drunk in public charge if you are just heading home on Metro?

I can't imagine that the new ownership of the Nats will be happy if that continues. If that happened and if it happens on a regular basis, you would think that beer sales would decrease.

I wonder what is behind this though. Wouldn't it be more effective to target Georgetown or Adams Morgan areas instead of a ball game? I'm not saying there aren't people driving drunk from RFK, but the percentage would be smaller than from the bar areas. And is it worth it to charge people with drunk in public???

There must be more to this story.

It was probably a couple of dudes pretending to be cops looking for chicks to grope.

Then the dudes also had pretend handcuffs to haul away the guy in front of her, according to the father.

Easy revenues. You simply set up a checkpoint at the stadium, and process the "herd" as they come out. They know that baseball + beer = tickets/revenue.

If the dude's daughter thought she was coming from a baseball game at RFK, she must have been really drunk.

Look at the date of the post, you moron. Eight years ago, when the post was made, the Nats were playing at RFK.

I would just refuse the breathalizer test and keep on moving. Unless I am shitfaced drunk and falling all over myself, the cops can fuck off.

Exhibition games are sometimes played at RFK. There is an underground "portal" that is a tunnel to one of the parking lots.

I been to a lot of events at RFK specially designed for drinking, Octoverfest, St. Patty's day etc... the DC cops didn't give a shit about people being drunk. Most just laughed.

I find it hard to believe that DC cops would ever do this. Baseball fans like to drink beers. including high ranking gov officials. No way they would allow this.

Haven't seen this at Nats Park yet, good idea at RFK, the United's "fans" only go to the games to get drunk and make asses of themselves.

FYI - 90% of drunk in public cases are dismissed. The charge is just a hassle to keep really drunk people from continuing to fight or doing something stupid.

I remember when this tried at Ned Divines and Jimmy Old Town Tavern. Several people were arrested near or in the bars for DIP. The town went ape shit and the story made national news. It was a huge black eye for the Herndon Police department. It has never been done since.
