Can Help Identify the Truck?
Posted by: Truck Find ()
Date: September 28, 2016 01:32PM

This morning at approximately 2:15AM I was traveling the southbound lanes of 495 between the Telegraph Rd and Eisenhower Ave exits in Alexandria, VA, and was hit by an 18 wheeler. The truck hit me so hard on my drivers door that the side of the truck punctured the steel of my door (as you can see in the pictures) and he ended up dragging me for several feet at 60 miles per hour before I was able to break free and slide across four lanes of traffic. The scariest part was when my rear left tire blew and I felt my car begin to fishtail towards his trailer.

I thought for sure that I would end up under the trailer and crushed by his tires. Thankfully, I made it to the right shoulder and watched the truck slow down and also move onto the shoulder. Seconds later, I guess he changed his mind and sped up and took off. He did not even stop to see if I was ok. This driver could've killed me and left my 11 year old without his mother. I am so very thankful that my guardian angels were with me and that I am still here today, but the driver of the 18 wheeler must be held accountable. I am begging you all to make this post go viral so that I can find witnesses and/or traffic cam footage that will help me to identify the truck that almost killed me. I am a single mother who works full time and goes to school in the evenings.

I have no means of transportation and I'm pretty sure my vehicle is totaled. SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE. YOU MIGHT SAVE A LIFE THE NEXT TIME HE IS ON THE ROAD!!!!! Update** the cab was dark blue/purple, possibly a sleeper cab, and it was carrying a large white box. I did not see any identifying numbers or names on it. The cab was a newer model though, very shiny paint. The truck will have damage on the passenger side. Definitely wheel and tire damage.

People are asking me if I have filed a police report, if I am insured, have I contacted VDOT..etc. Yes I'm licensed and insured. Yes, I have a valid registration. Yes, I called 911 immediately after the accident and filed a police report. Yes, I have contacted VDOT. Thank you for your inquiries.

You need to learn what blind spots are! I suspect you were in one and the driver didn't see you.

well in all fairness if the truck was passing the OP on the OP's left side. then its the trucks duty to ensure that he has completely passed the car before changing lanes.

but at 2:15. truck driving was probably watching pror on his cell phone while punching the clown, and the OP was drunk after leaving the bars...

Who was watching your 11 year old while you were out at 2 o'clock in the morning?

It is not totaled. All that damage is cosmetic.

It's a 2011-2013 Civic DX, probably worth $2,500 - $3,500.

With that level of damage, the insurance co may total it 'cause it's not worth fixing.

The only thing you were doing at 2:15am was driving home from a bar. What about your child? Why'd you hit the truck?

You better start sucking some cock to pay for that, as you know the car can't blow anyone in that condition.

looks like about $2500 body work plus paint and a tire/wheel cover so figure 3500-4000 bucks. Depending on your deductible it might be totaled but it will be close.

Why out so late on a school night, in the rain with an 11 yr old at home. If you are in Fairfax, your 11 year old gets has to be at the bus by 650 am - you planning on getting only 3.5 hours of sleep before getting up for your child in the morning?

Great troll tale though - the 11 yr. old was a nice touch...

Pretty fucked up. Kinda feel bad for you. Hopefully he went through the weight station in lotto. Prior to the accident, if so the VSP will be able to figure out which truck it was

I am not a state farm agent- but it looks to me like someone was not paying attention and on their phone and swerved into the truck and tried to blame it on the truck.

Good luck though- I'd just deal with my insurance company, accept the repair or the check and get a new car and move on.

Yes because if someone runs into you and its their fault, you're going to run away.

Seems legit.

It's difficult to see black paint on black tires. I personally make it a habit to stay 20 feet back from trucks. The blind spot is tough. You probably felt like a pothole. Count your blessings as it could have easily been much worse.

Methinks you're way low. It's hard to have more than one piece of metal damaged without breaking $1500, and this looks like it's gonna need both door skins, a fender, a bumper, and some bodywork on the other fender or replacement. And that's assuming the pushed fenders didn't mess up the hood or trunk lid too badly.

I'm betting more like $8K at least, and totaled.

Would be interesting to hear what the actual estimate is!

You idiots saying she was drunk - if she was drunk why would she have called the police to file a report? The police would have known she was drunk right away.

Also, if she was at fault, why did the truck run? Of course he was at fault he probably didn't see that little Civic and moved into her lane.

You fucking morons on this website have 0 critical thinking skills. Typical Fairfax.

In order to identify who was driving the truck, you must get the DOT number on either side of the cab doors, otherwise you are out of luck - unless you happen to see the same truck again, but I guess that would be difficult to do at night.

Also keep in mind many of these tractor trailer drivers have delivery deadlines to meet, some even driving without having enough sleep before heading out on the road.

Even then, that is still no excuse to put other motorists lives at risk.

Yea you are probably right - the 2 doors alone are 1800 bucks without labor. So figure $2200 for the doors unpainted alone. There will be some cutting and wielding as well. I bet your 6-8k isnt far off.
