A Centreville man is accused of setting a fire at his own house early Thursday morning on 2/13— and over 60 firefighters had to battle the flames during a heavy snowstorm, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials.
Giancarlo Deleon, 25, of Scotch Run Court, is charged with burning or destroying a house. He is accused of intentionally applying an open flame to clothing that was saturated with an ignitable liquid.
“Units arrived on-scene quickly, despite heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions to find a three-story detached single family home with fire coming from the basement and spreading to a neighboring home,” fire and rescue officials said in a press release.
A second alarm brought the dozens of firefighters to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
The Red Cross is assisting the four people who were displaced as a result of the fire. The damage is estimated at a $100,000. The adjacent home had $5,000 in damage.
