Required FCPS summer reading

Shouldn't FCPS provide the books? How does it work? Don't schools typically
provide books for required reading?

They provide breakfast, lunch, and probably even dinner if you stayed long enough, so I have to believe that if you're an illegal or ghetto, you should be able to get the books you need.
Although, let's be honest. Do you really think these Hispanics or niggers are reading books?

If your child is in an Honors or AP English class they used to make you buy the books.

I doubt the libraries have 200+ copies of a single title to meet the needs of a full grade of students.

Paperbacks cost around $5-7. Get a cardboard sign and walk the median to raise the funds if you can't afford that. Take charge of your own destiny and stop complaining.

Is it a particular book that they want you to read or is it one book from a long list of books?

As an extreme last resort, you could always offer to do a little yard work for a neighbor and earn money to buy a book. Nah! That would mean two hours away from your playstation, which would be a worse crime than the holocaust!

It's typically the latter. In cases where a particular book will be assigned to a large number of students, arrangements are made to assure that a sufficient number of copies will be available at the school and at libraries and bookstores.

They should be required to read the new rules and regulations regarding transgender rights before the sign the document. Oh, that's right, there are none .

That's right. They don't. So, you get put on a wait list, and your turn never comes. So, you end up buying a book that is a required read, even though you are not supposed to have to pay for required materials. Illegal.

I think it should be illegal to assign work over breaks. They tell us to not plan trips, etc. during school hours. And then they violate our private time with their assignments. Just who do they think they are?

I live in a school district that doesn't assign summer reading/writing/math assignments. But I assign them to my kids anyway. I'm mean like that.

If the meals tax passes, the first round of expenditures will probably be for marching band and educational consultants. Maybe, just maybe, if there's anything left, a progressive thinker in the FCPS administration might just make a case to use some of the money for books.

Or not, as it is time for lunch and there are *so many* restaurants in the Mosaic District!

Many of the restaurants in the Mosaic District are quite nice. Tell your kids to study hard so that -- unlike some -- they will end up being able to afford eating there.

I suppose you'd like the books delivered to your front door also?

A few years ago, Mount Vernon principal Nardos King required that all teachers and students read Three Cups of Tea. What a joke and embarrassment as the premise of story was false. The author made up the feel good story that made the book a best seller.

LOL never did it, though I am an avid reader on my own accord. I hated a pre-determined list of crap to read.
